Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Plot change Empty Plot change

Post by Darren Tue Jan 04, 2011 6:33 pm

This is the follow up subject of the announcement here . Please read that topic before posting here. This topic is where you can post your opinion about the plot change, as well as suggestions for the next update. However, make constructive comments, (eg: you disagree with the plot change, then give a reasonas to why and explain what you would like us to do instead.) Discussions between members are also welcome, as long as it doesn't turn into an argument.

Well if we were to take the plot back two or three years, what about our characters that are recent grads? Would they have to go back and re attend, school and go back in age? Or the drop outs who have no desire to be in school in the first place? I'm just curious as to how all of this is going to be worked out.

Only major canon characters will have to change their age, and will have to re-attend if they recently graduated. Original characters will not have to change their age if they do not want to, and therefore won't have to re-attend.

What about the characters that or original canon children? I mean I understand the ones that are strictly canon will have to change theirs but what about those?

It's not like we're literally going back in time, Ash, they just want to change the year. So to keep it canon, canons would have to change their age because the book specifies their birth year. And I think anyone relating to canon that has a specified birth year is what they mean. Whereas my charries Naomi and Simon are canon, their birth years are unspecified and, from what I can tell, their age will be unaffected.

Ok well that makes more sense. I'm just confused by it all actually. I think I'd actually have to see a plot to make any judgement ideas about it all. Although I do think that we could change the plot up without having to go back in time in my honest opinion. Thats just the great thing about it being an rp. It should constantly be moving forward, not back to work a plot.

I agree with changing the ages of the canons. Lucy's age is only correct because I recalculated it before I applied for her.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you seem to want to make these changes because the stats were down over Christmas & New Year. This will always happen. Not just here, but on any RP. There are threads on the resource boards that discuss it. It's because people want to spend time with their families on the holidays, or because they go away for the holidays, and because people's families resent them spending every free moment on the computer when they should be using the opportunity to spend time with people they haven't seen all year.

I think it it's very short sighted to be changing everything again just because there was a lull.

I think it would be best to not change the year because people with canons will have a hard time adjusting, but I think there does need to be a change of plot. There had not been one site wide plot all school year, unless you count the Triwizard tournament and the Barker scare, and that came from personal plotting between Chase and me that happened to snowball.

Perhaps if the site was informed on what direction you guys were thinking of going in, people could make suggestions to help it so the year does not need to be changed and so that everyone will feel like they have a part in it and had a part in bringing about its creation. Then, there will be less of a chance of anyone resenting the plot due to changes.

I agree with both Caelani and Jack...I know from experience that sites tend to be down on activity during the holidays...and I also know thats because families tend to complain when you spend every free moment on the computer. I got yelled at for staying up all night Christmas Eve...But I do think that the plot does need something the whole site can get involved in and that it might not be a bad idea to get the members in on it too. At least in the suggesting of new plots.
