What is Duelling?

Sometimes on PA, we use the word duel to refer to any magical battle between two or more characters. Those aren't duels; they are fights.

A duel is a traditional method of settling differences between the upper classes. In the olden days, one only fought a duel with someone of equal standing to himself (women didn't fight, so...). If someone of lesser standing wronged you, you simply whipped them (or mutilated or killed them), because you were automatically in the right.

The point of all this is that unlike a fight, a duel has rules.

How The System Works

The duelling system in Hogwarts is designed to be as fair as possible. Therefore, all students start off with the same level of knowledge, experience and strength, regardless of their activities elsewhere on the site. Likewise, all duels your character participates in will gain them experience in duelling, regardless of whether they win or lose.

Basically, you can only get better at duelling by duelling.
