The CSS is slowing down the site

I thought I ought to tell you guys that the CSS is slowing down the loading times on the site. I had to turn it off just so I could get any pages to load.

One of the reasons it's slow is because the server forummotion uses (illiweb) to host its images is slow, so you can fix that by either moving your main images and linking them from another server like photobucket or tinypic to the main style sheet, or by deleting some of them.

And you can tidy up the code. The forummotion stylesheet codes are really messy. I can do that for you, if you like. I have a couple of simple stylesheets that I use to override the one on this site anyway.

Hmmm, although i don't want to change anything on the site, mainly because it's Jemma's work, i mean, come on!

But if it's slowing the site down... how much? Is it a really significant ammount or just a second or two?

Two days ago, I couldn't load a page in less than three hours. That might also have something to do with my connection though, because I'm on wireless. However, I searched the name of the image site because that was where my browser was getting stuck and the second result on google is a thread from the forummotion support forums of people complaining about how their forums have been slowed by it.

I also overrode the forum's default css with my own, and that sped up my loading time to a couple of minutes. I wouldn't have been able to post otherwise. I've skinned forummotion boards before, so I know how their code is. It's really messy, and the messier your code the longer it takes to load.

Well we can't do anything with the CSS sheet unless Jemma magically comes back. She's the only one who understands the coding and stuff. Otherwise if any one of us other admins try it's a 99.99% chance we bugger the site. Also, there's a high chance its your computer/connection. Because the site's been fine for me with the computer I'm on.

But if PA is being slow for anyone else they might've spoken up by now right? Did this just start happening yesterday?

Except that this site is the only one affected, and it doesn't improve when I use my uni's connection.

I use firefox for PotterArmy. And it hasn't ever slowed down for me.

It may just be your browser actually. I'm not sure that it's the CSS sheet...plus we shouldn't go messing around with it. Even if you do know how, but I guess Jess'll decide.

I've used firefox and safari and opera.

The only way it loads in time is if I disable the style sheet.

If it makes you feel better, I do have professional qualifications, Matt. Which is more than Jemma does. She's completely self taught (not that there's anything wrong with that, it's how lots of people learn). I can even edit the code in my browser and post it here. You don't need to give me access to anything.

Hmmm, well, forgive me, but i'm going to talk to Jemma first, it's nothing against you, but she's all i know about CSS, so i want her say on this.
