Dangerous Duo

Desmond walked down Diagon Alley, smiling a regular smile. He held a small bag in his hand, which had WW on the side, as if painted onto the bag. He had recently been to the Weasley shop and purchased a couple of pranking devices, which he paid some good money for. He went into a small alley, and put his hand into the bag, and pulled out, what appeared to be a firecracker. Having this be the first time having to use the prank, he reached back into the bag and pulled out a white slip of paper, which were the instruction. "Okay...place on pedastal...oh god." he said, not understanding the instructions on the paper. Some pranker he was. He decided to wing it, and ignited the short fuse on the bottom of the rocket, hoping it would go off. He plugged his ears, for any explosions, and waited for it to take off. Sadly, it did not. "Bloody hell," he cursed under his breath "What am I doing wrong?"

Jack strode jauntily down Diagon Alley, turning the laser pointer in her pocket over and over, looking around for anything that might catch her eye and her interest. She sighed; it seemed there were none. She glanced upwards, and her eyes fell onto a Weasley rocket. There was no mistaking the design. She saw the fuse going up but it was not properly activated. She grinned, licked her fingers, and put out the fuse.

She picked up the rocket and glanced around. There was only one boy immediately nearby, and he had his hands clasped over his ears. She raised an eyebrows. "You didn't activate this correctly." She turned it over in her hands. "Brilliant, those Weasley brothers. I would kill to talk with them...The design of this. Genius."

Desmond looked up and chuckled slightly, in a way of disbelief, yet knew he had done it wrong himself. "Well they weren't there," he said calmly, not knowing that one of the Weasley twins had actually died back in the battle for Hogwarts "so I was a bit bummed. But I did manage to find this beaute." He looked at it and then sighed. "do you know how to ignite it? The instructions look foreign to me really." He handed her the white slip of paper and then looked at the rocket. He really wished he could figure out how to ignite it.

Jack grinned, handing the instructions back to him as she took the rocket in both hands. "First things first, you don't even have all of the attachments engaged. Like I said, the Weasley brothers were brilliant. One rocket is never enough." She carefully twisted the middle of the rockets with her thumb and forefinger. It opened up and small firecrackers slid out and aligned themselves in a tight row, wrapping around the middle.

Jack grinned and then grabbed the fuse and pulled it out to a length that would give them about fifteen seconds until detonation. She studied it and then tapped it once with her wand on the very tip. "There." She thrust it into his hands. Usually, she would insist on lighting it, but he needed to learn. "Now, set it up and light her up." She grinned.

Desmond nodded, and getting the rocket set onto the pedestal, which came with the rocket itself. He ignited the fuse with his wand and quickly covered his ears, in case the explosion was loud. After about 5 seconds, the rocket exploded into a high pitch sound and thrust itself into the air. Desmond let go of his ears and looked to where the rocket was heading. "Okay..." he said, disappointed that it was not going off "when will it-" Suddenly, there was a large explosion, and a cascade of colors and explosions erupted over Diagon Alley, and a lot of people stopped and jerked their heads towards the source of the splendid performance.

"Woah!" Desmond exclaimed, his heart racing mostly because of the adrenaline "that was wicked! I need to get another one of those for the 4th of July!" He grabbed the bad which he carried the rocket with and turned towards Jack. "Who are you?" he asked, curious that she had helped him in the first place. She looked at least 4 years older than him, and was still pranking?

Jack pumped a fist as the rocket launched off, the small firecrackers exploding as they were ignited, adding to the chaos and confusion. A few of the more timid Diagon Alley customers dodged into nearby shops and recluses to escape the flying sparks and the piercing whistles that emanated from the rocket.

The rocket continued to explode, bursting into smaller and smaller rockets with more toned-down explosions that shot off in different directions to spread the chaos to all of Diagon Alley, not just them. She turned to the boy who asked who she was. She thrust out a hand for him to shake and said proudly, "Jack Dyllan."

Desmond grabbed hold of the girls hand and shook it. "I'm Desmond," he said, trying to sound like he was boasting. "And isn't Jack a guy name? Just wondering." He let go of Jack's hand and hung it by his waist, and blinked a couple of times. She wasn't like most of the girls, and Desmond truly respected that. "Could you show me how to use some of the pranking devices?" he asked, and had a minor squeak at the end of his sentence. He hated puberty, very very badly. "Sorry," he said, trying to sound regular again.

Jack smiled at him, "Glad to meet you, Desmond." She smirked slightly as he said introduced himself in as proud a manner as he could. "It is a boys name. Or, well was a boy's name. Until about seventeen years ago." She smiled. She had not been called Jack since birth, but she had hated the name Jaquellene since as long as she could remember, so to her, it counted.

He asked her if she could help him out with pranking and she smiled, though her mind was screaming in triumph. Her plan for her last year of Hogwarts was to give her Death Eater teachers hell, and she had planned to train younger students to fill her shoes once she graduated or was expelled. She took on a serious expression. "How serious are you about learning?"

"I'm about as serious then I'll ever get," he said anticipation lurking in his eyes, and a proud grin stretched out onto his face. He didn't know if it would affect the Gryffindor team, but right now, he was just too excited about learning more about what he had just seen. He had pranked his siblings before, but with just amateur Muggle stuff. Now, there was magic involved. The big leagues.

"So what's first?" he asked, nearly hopping in excitement. He wanted to get ready for the 4th year of Hogwarts, and the best way he could do that, was to get his pranking skills honed in, and then maybe study along the way. He did want to become an Auror after all.

Jack stared at Desmond, and stroked her chin thoughtfully. I should grow a beard, she thought, teasing herself. Yeah, she had some issues. She cracked her neck and thrust her hands into her pocket. Her hand touched her laser pointer... Of course. She smiled to herself.

"So," she began. "You need a signature. Your go-to prank." She extracted her laser pointer and held it out as though it were her most prized possession...That's right. It was one of them. "Then it also makes you famous for something. The Weasley brothers-" Hmm, wonder who her heroes were- "Were especially known for the Skiving Snackboxes and their Extendable Ears." She smiled. "That's the first thing."
