Thud, Thud, Thud, Thud. Keera pushed herself through the crowd of people stuffed
into the Atrium, her boots as noisy as ever against the marble floor. She looked left,
and then right, her piercing green eyes scanning the area for anyone of importance,
anyone with power. She continued forward with her hands in her vest pockets, her
usual ecstatic expression replaced by one of calmness; sure these people had dirt
on her, but they had no reason to forbid her from the Ministry building, and they also
had no reason to cause her any trouble.
“Keera Mast?” A pale, plump looking young women asked, her face expressing her
obvious curiosity as to why Keera of all people, was walking about the main floor of
the Ministry. Keera pushed her way past the women without saying a word, her eyes
never even moving in her direction. “Ms. Mast?” she asked again, clearly thinking the
chattering of the people around them had drowned out her voice the first time. “I. Heard.
You,” Keera replied in a calm, but threatening tone, but continued on her way, once
again not bothering to see who it was who was talking to her. “Its me, Mast!” the women
called after her, having stopped in the middle of the crowd, staring at the Keera’s back
as she disappeared into the large mass of people. Keera inhaled deeply and ran a hand
through her tangled hair, she hadn’t expected to see anyone of her former classmates
there- which she then realized was a possibility very foolish for her to overlook- and
she especially hadn’t expected to see Alexia Belle of all people. Wasn’t she dead or
something? Keera glanced backwards- but only for a second- and was relived when
she saw that Alexia was no longer following her. She couldn’t seem to understand why
the women had even dared to speak to her; had she seriously forgotten what she had
done to her sister that dark, September evening? No, Keera decided, no one had yet
forgotten how she had lost her temper and murdered the young witch. Nobody would
ever forget, and it would drive Keera crazy each time she saw any of the people who
had witnessed it, especially Alexia.
Keera reminded herself that she was there at the ministry for a reason and she couldn’t
afford to let her emotions get the best of her. She cracked her neck and narrowed her
eyes to slits as she neared one of the elevators; she would focus on the plan & nothing
but the plan, if she brought her past into it she would be doomed to failure. “Watch it!” A
young Auror- though Keera could only guess- snapped as he stepped out of the elevator,
a briefcase in hand. She frowned and entered the elevator, watching as the doors started
to close slowly, when a hand reached in and pushed the doors apart, stepping inside to
join Keera. She eyed him, her eyes darting over his face as she tried to figure out who he
was. “Er, Hello,” he greeted, noticing her watchful, curious eyes as he shifted from one
foot to the other. Keera nodded in reply, turning her head so that she was staring at the
glowing floor numbers above the doors. First floor, Second floor, Third floor. Keera waited
as each one lit up indicating that the elevator had passed those floors. Ding! The elevator
chimed, causing the nervous man besides her to jump. She glanced in his direction, had
she met this man before? Or was he just a naturally jumpy man? She shook her head,
leaving her thoughts behind in the elevator as she walked out, once again looking left and
right before moving forward. She was on the right floor now, the Minister’s office would
be only a few paces away.
“Its time to see how our old pal Matt is doing,” Keera whispered to herself, grinning wickedly.
