moving in y'all

Jinx opened the door to the bistro and stepped in, looking around curiously. She knew that this was the the place Rob and Khaat owned and it was her first time there. She took off her jacket and hung it up before walking over to the counter.

"Rob? Khaat? You here?"

Khaat looked out and saw it was Jinx. She got excited. "Rob, its Jinx,. Come out and say a word if you get a chance. I asked her a long time ago if she wanted to move in with us and the rest of them. But I hadn't heard from her. I am so glad to finally see her again."

Khaat went out to her and hugged her. "Welcome. I am so glad to see you. Are you hungry? Can we fix you anything? Rob is an awesome chef. Come over and sit down." She led Jinx to Khaat's favorite table and invited her to sit down.

Jinx smiled as Khaat walked up to her-was it just her, or was Khaat somehow bigger? She was a little surprised when she got hugged but kept quiet, only muttering a low 'Hi' and shaking her head in answer to Khaat's question. 'I'm fine thanks.' She sat down and picked at a loose thread on her top before looking back up at Khaat. 'So how've you been? Nice place you got here.' Jinx wasn't a very social person by nature, and she felt awkward as she spoke.

Rob heard the door of Sparks open but he hadn’t really taken any notice of it. He was waiting for the chocolate to set on the top of his cheesecake and it was annoying him to no end that the chocolate was being so stubborn. He let Khaat leave and retrieved the large plate of cake from the fridge. He poked the chocolate toping with a knife and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was in fact set. It was slightly soft but just right in his opinion.

The back door opened and Rob looked up, expecting someone to come in. Instead he heard the pitter patter of shoes across the tiles and walked around the kitchen island to find Fauve standing in front of the microwave, looking at it with an inquisitive look on her face. Rob didn’t know if it was possible but she was looking more and more like Eli every day, it was insane. He kneeled down in front of her and pushed her dark fringe out of her eyes. She grinned widely at Rob and he chuckled.

“Fauve, honestly, what are you doing here? And where is your father?”

It was at that point that Nachash slithered through the door and in through into the main restaurant area. Rob frowned a little and shook his head before picking Fauve up. He put her on his hip and kept his arm around her waist. He picked up the plate of chocolate cheesecake and walked through into the restaurant. Nachash had disappeared wherever she had gone and Rob found Jinx and Khaat sitting at one of the tables. He put the cheesecake down in the middle of the table and sat Fauve down in one of the seats before kissing Jinx on the cheek.

“Alright, darlin’?” he asked, eager to know what she’d been up to.

Jinx looked up as someone else walked arrived at the table. She was surprised to see Rob and even more surprised to see the little girl he was carrying. No way... Jinx's mouth formed an open 'o' as she ran all the possiblities through her head. Then she looked from Khaat to Rob. 'You haven't... I mean.... That isn't....' She paused a second as her gaze flicked to Khaat's belly and then to the young girl. She took a breath in and paused before she spoke again. 'Who is she?'

Even if she was Rob and Khaat's, which was unlikely as she looked nothing like them, then surely she would have heard about her? Jinx didn't know what to think, and decided that the best course of action to take whilst waiting for an answer would be to focus her attention on the one thing she was absolutely sure about in the room. The cheesecake. A strange course of action to take, but confusion never did mix well with Jinx.

"No," Khaat laughed gently, reassuring her, "No, this is our first. Its going to be a girl, and Rob has the poor girl hopelessly spoiled before she even gets here." She laid a hand on her stomach. "Fauve is the adopted daughter of Eli, who lives with us. Rob, you really did not make chocolate cheesecake, did you? You better have made more than one. You know how bad I"m getting at this cheesecake thing. Jinx, can I interest you in a slice of what looks to me like one of the most decadent cheesecakes in the world? Fauve, do you want a slice of cheesecake? It's chocolate. Where in the world is your papa? Surely he didn't let you come all the way here by yourself."

Rob sat down next to Fauve and cut her up a slice of cheesecake. He put it on a plate for her and conjured a fork with a snap of his fingers. Fauve tried to do the same but ended up throwing the fork across the room. There was a minor hiss from Nachash and Rob looked over to see the snake inspecting the fork which was now wedged in the wall. Rob frowned and looked down at the little girl who was looking at Rob with a worried expression. He chuckled and mussed up her hair, causing her to frown at him. He conjured another fork and handed it to Fauve who had turned her head to look at Khaat.

“Papa is at the art store of course!” she told Khaat happily. “He wants to go back to Paris. Papa needs a muse.” Fauve nodded before digging into the cheesecake. Rob shook his head and made up two more plates, one for Khaat and one for Jinx.

Jinx nodded at the truckload of information she'd just recieved. She had no idea who this 'Eli' was, or why he had an adopted daughter, or even how he came to live with Khaat and Rob, but she nodded all the same. She didn't want to impose on anyone, and she really didn't want another shock. So she just took up Khaat on her offer of cheesecake, quietly summoned a fork from the kitchen, and started to eat. The cake tasted surprisingly good, and Jinx soon finished it. Then, she looked at Rob and said, slowly 'You can cook!' She didn't mean to sound so shocked, and instantly bit her lip, hoping he wouldnt take it as an insult. It was as though all the shock she had felt earlier was all coming out in that one statement, and Jinx had no idea why it sounded like it did.
