((To Live in Darkness is to seek the light, but to walk in the light we must first know the darkness of our own heart.))
General Personality: Quiet and unassuming, Alester is often overlooked as just your average guy standing off by himself. He is fiercely loyal; if you crack through his thick shell and become counted as one of his friends. Most people simply can't be bothered enough to get to know this learned young man who Muggle's consider "One of those Goth kids." His sense of humor is a bit off kilter, and he laughs at things that may seem inappropriate. His heart is dark, and he will stop at nothing to get what he wants; and his ambition is neverending. He comes from a long line of pureblood Wizardkind, and he is proud of his heritage. He does not deny Muggle born's their ability, but he is a "Blueblood" through and through.
Alester is a bit of the daredevil; he has no fear and is willing to try anything once, twice if he likes it. Extreme sports and adrenaline rushes are how he spends his time in the Muggle world. In the Wizard world he enjoys delving into his Grandfather's Grimoire and unlocking hte secrets of the Thoth Tarot created by the man he is named after. He seeks to surpass the man and this fuels his ambition and drive for success and power. It also keeps him aloof and secluded from most others; and he can appear stuck up and rude as a result. Really he is a live in the moment type, although his eyes are ever turned to his future where he will be expected to assume the High Priest of the Thoth Coven. So his lack of fear and desire to push his limits are his own version of training for his future. Really he has many qualities of a good leader, intelligent and forthright, honest and direct, strong and decisive, cunning and charming, and willing to do whatever it takes and ambition.
He really couldn't care what other people think of him, and his attitude in how he treats them shares this philosophy. However, he is quite unexpectedly honest and to the point; he does not pull his punches and speaks what is on his mind with little regard to whom he is speaking. He has a bit of disregard for rules, although he understands their place in the order of things; and in class he is considered respectful and studious and has never been sent to the headmaster's office for reprimand. Instead he completes his work successfully, but often in his own way and on his own terms.
He does not like to be bothered if he is deep in his own thoughts, and this is when his temper might get the best of him. He has pretty good control over his emotions, almost perfect; save when someone gets on that one nerve... He is strong and his determination is limitless; he does not know the meaning of the words "give-up" or "quit". He trains devoutly in hand to hand combat, knowing that magick cannot sovle every skirmish or squabble. As a result he is agile and a decent fighter.
His downside is his temper, which can get the better of him and override common logic. His aloof nature keeps him primarily alone and making friends isn't one of his strengths. He is overtly formal in speech and manner, which many find disconcerting and weird and are traits which mark him as unfriendly and cold. Cold is a good word to define him; but it is being stedfast and his hardheadedness which have served him well in his life. Also he cannot brew a potion sucessfully very often, which frustrates and angers him, and causes him trouble in school... it is his lowest mark class. Herbology is another weakness, he just couldn't care about which plant does what, and they just look alike to him for the most part! Additionally, he is not the most patient person, he hates waiting and the tests which are often paramount in acquiring patience.
Probably one of his most troublesome traits is his ability to find trouble and for it to find him. Making friends could be considered an issue, although he tends to discern people for himself, and although he is a bit snobbish when it comes to blood he will merit you based on your ability and worth. If he values something in you you will be tested (which you will probably never even know as it is subtle and very discreet, and wholly personal to Alester). If you pass you will be a friend, and never a more loyal friend will you have. Long history, and the status and money which come with it are his, as well as the power of his family lineage and success in Dark Arts. He will fight alongside you with his blade, his wand, or his wits and he will do all in his power not to let you down.
He is hardworking and a fighter... but with a cold demeanor and a temper that flares in sometimes inopportune moments. He doesn't have many friends and is a bit standoffish. He is very smart, but barely passable at potions and herbology. He is ambitious and power-hungry, yet he is a loyal friend and good leader. He is overtly honest, yet speaks his mind and pulls no punches. He is strong and agile and good at hand to hand combat. He is excellent at charms and transfiguration, and uses his Tarot almost as often as his wand to direct his magick. His thoughts are his own, and he often keeps them to himself, which strikes people as aloof and snobbish. He doesn't show emotion often, and his humor is often deemed inappropriate. His philosophy is to know thyself, and serve thyself; and he does things his own way believing rules are necessary, but meant to be bent at will and broken when needed.
H I S T O R YFamily Information: Parents: Dermod and Fionaula Crowley
Great Grandfateher: Alester Crowley (deceased)
Childhood: Alester grew up in a well respected British family where his family pride is based on his Great Grandfather's achievements in creating a Tarot which could channel magick and be used in place of the typical wand. Alester was named after his Grandfather, and he strives to take his place as High Priest of the Thoth Coven. He was homeschooled until this past year when his father was killed in an attempt to steal the Grimoire and origional Tarot of Alester Crowley. Alester was brought up across Muggle and Wizard borders. He can fully function in either society.
Hogwarts: Alester has no idea what to do at Hogwarts, he was assigend to attend for his final year and to complete testing after his father was killed. His mother wanted him to attend Durmstrang, as his father had; and can only hope he will at least be able to uphold some honor by being in Slytherin, although she won't tell Alester this!
Adulthood: (One paragraph - only if your character is graduated.)
Short Roleplay: Alester sat at his usual place in the back of the room, his goal as ever to remain unnoticed and just get through this class one more time. He hated potions more than any other class, and today they were to create a draught of the living dead. He knew he was doomed, and his table partner eyed his cauldron cautiously. Alester had never blown his potion up, boiled it over, or even had any real mishap; but the guy was aware of every mutter that spilled from Alester's lips as he fought to prepare even an acceptable brew. He cursed every nuance of the craft and muttered vague threats and bits of opinion on the Noble Art and Precise Magick of Potion's Brewing with every ingredient and action that each formula required.
He gave his customary blank expression to the guy and turned to the correct page before sighing deeply as he rose to gather the needed ingredients for the potion. He had made it to the table where they were displayed and back to hsi seat before the guy even moved. Alester eyed him blankly as this was unusual behavior and anything out of the ordinary was certain to catch Alester's astute attention.
Finally the boy spoke, "Would you like some help today? This potion is half the grade for this quarter...and I noticed how hard you work..." the boy's voice trailed off as Alester scrutinized his inflection and tone, posture, and eye contact.
Discerning nothing amiss save for a true offer of aide Alester offered a rare half smile, "Ok, but what do you require in return? Every good deed deserves reward." His eyes were light, flashing silver through the turquoise, but he was waiting for the reply. Perhaps this boy had an ulterior motive, his reaction would give him away.
"Don't take it the wrong way, but I noticed how you try but you just aren't good at potions. You just seemed to need a little help, and I know this potion backwards and forewards. It will make it a little more challenging if I have to brew my own and help you with yours. It will help pass the class time," he smiled weakly wondering if he had made the right choice to offer his help.
Alester nodded and began to prepare the first ingredient, he didn't say anything more, but in his mind the guy had moved into a new sphere...potential. He was good with potions, always brewing acceptable, and often high marking potions. Alester worked industriously on his potion listening to the advice and help from his table mate. He was waiting to see where this information would lead; perhaps an acquaintance that would prove useful in the future... a possability Alester's mind was always on alert for.
