A P P E A R A N C EHeight: Short (about five feet tall)
Hair: Dark brown with a few lighter streaks, and curly
Eye colour: Brown
Skin: Pale, a little blushed
General Appearance: Briony is a small girl and she is still, to her dismay, usually considered "adorable." She's got brown wavy hair that is styled in bangs and sometimes streaked. Her eyes are dark brown and wide-set over a small nose. They often look very deep and pensive, as though she is thinking about something, and she usually is. Her skin is very pale due to spending excessive amounts of time inside, and it blushes easily.
P E R S O N A L I T YSkills: Creative things like sketching, detail oriented things, Herbology, strong personality, resourceful, determined, intelligent, elegant
Weaknesses: Holds ridiculously high standards, Divination, arrogance, resentful, compulsive, secretive, dishonest, uncomfortable around crowds
Likes: Plants, books, magic, inside, quiet, sketching, her sketches
Dislikes: Loudness, crowds, undignified situations, Divination, attention
Motto: "Think big thoughts, but relish small pleasures. "
General Personality: Briony is generally what people would call an intellectual. This doesn't mean she simply reads books all day, though. She's more usually found doing something artistic. She's more of a sketch artist than an artsy one, meaning she likes above all to reproduce real things onto the page. She tends to think through this as well and does her best work visually. Sketching helps her focus. She needs a base, however, and dislikes drawing from thin air. She prefers a more detailed, correct, logical approach.
She isn't in any way a very social girl. She grew up with only one sibling and two rather distant parents. She isn't naturally the type to talk on and on about things either, and likes to keep her thoughts inside her head. This means that she sometimes talks to herself. It also means she can seem cold and arrogant. And she is arrogant, in a way. She's really gotten a high opinion of herself as she's the only person she really trusts and respects. She doesn't notice others much, and when she does, it is because there are a lot of them and she feels uncomfortable.
H I S T O R YFamily Information: Rosamund and Bracken de Malden, parents
Sorrel de Malden, little sister (11 years old)
Childhood: The de Maldens are an old and dignified wizarding family, though not nearly as wealthy or well-known as some other purebred families. Rosamund de Malden was actually born Rosamund Davidson into a family of two muggleborns. The de Maldens are known particularly for their greenhouses which are kept on the de Malden property. Briony grew up in the greenhouses, sketching plants there. Her father, Bracken, was usually caught up with his St Mungos job, though, and her mother, Rosamund, with her Ministry one. She grew up tended by several rather inexpensive nannies and with her sister, though she tried to avoid them all as much as possible. Her magic first showed in the greenhouse, though not obviously. It was more that when she grew things, they really grew well.
Hogwarts: At Hogwarts, Briony's best subject was Herbology, which wasn't a surprise to her by any means. She grew up surrounded by plants-why wouldn't she be good at it? As a by-product of this, she was reasonably good at potions. She tried to avoid many people, though, as she usually saw people as loud, annoying things. Whenever she did talk to people, she normally used a very cold tone and spare words, and then attempted to get away. Her sketchbook at Hogwarts was filled with many more pictures than just plants, as she tried to draw people in order to understand them.
Short Roleplay: Briony was a dawn and dusk person, more accustomed to the times of day when people weren't around. Lately she had stopped feeling so irritated by the presence of others, but she still preferred to be alone. She also loved how the place she loved most at Hogwarts was also the place that was most empty. She was in the greenhouses.
Taking out her sketchbook, she looked around for something to draw.
Something simple today, she thought. A nearby flower sufficed in her opinion. It was an elegant plant, with dark purple leaves and stalks, and a reddish blue bud. She set her quill to paper and traced one line, the curved one of the stem. Quills weren't easy to draw will if they leaked, but this one was high-quality enough to draw smoothly. And Briony's years of practice with a quill made the line beautiful in its own simplicity.
She elaborated with the flower. It was still graceful, in her opinion, but much more detailed and intricate. It looped out and back in again, and her quill followed its shape. It moved more rapidly now, beginning to form the life of the flower.
