FAMILY & HISTORYGrandmother: Eleanor Rookwood (62)
The eldest child of Regulus Rookwood, Eleanor was quick to assert her authority over her siblings at a very young age. Contrary to the patriarchal convention among established pureblood wizarding families of her time, she assumed her father's role as head of the Rookwood family swiftly after his disappearance. Although there was no apparent disagreement from her siblings when that took place, this was a largely unpopular move with the rest of her family relations and other wizarding families within this insular society. Eleanor abhorred the hypocrisy of misogyny, whose biggest criticisms of her was that she was merely aspiring to be a man. Rumours and gossip clung to the Rookwood family - the favourites among the crowd being Eleanor's array of female and male lovers, fuelled by her refusal to marry and three children 'óut of wedlock' - but she persisted. Rookwood wealth, converted from economic influence in the muggle world (another sore point for many), developed further with Eleanor as the head of the family.
Aunts: Theodora Rookwood (39, Ravenclaw), Nicola Shelby-Rookwood (31, Slytherin)
Theodora is protective of her mother, and is highly trusted by the latter. She is entrusted with the family business when Eleanor is unavailable, and her greatest interest is in furthering her mother's convictions. Theodora has recently married her partner of 11 years. Most of the family, apart from her immediate ones, are indiferrent to the union. Theodora doesn't know that Thaddeus disdains her union with a woman. Living a rather opposite life from her older sister, Nicola yearns for acceptance from the wider pureblood wizarding families. As much as she loves her family, she is easily swayed by the community, and straddles a difficult position. This is made even more difficult after her early marriage to the Shelbys, a considerably influential family in the community who is relatively quiet but shares the general disdain against the Rookwoods.
Father: Augustus Rookwood (38, Slytherin)
Although Augustus suffers his mother's indifference, he is adored by his sisters. A serial people-pleaser and opportunist, he is ambitious, cunning, and charming. Driven by a persistent need for approval from his mother, Augustus craves power regardless of the means to it. When Lord Voldemort presented opportunities for it, Augustus pledged himself as a Death Eater and spied on the Ministry while working as an Unspeakable. This culminated in acts of betrayal, followed by a few battles, and his imprisonment in Azkaban. Augustus was madly in love with his wife, Louisa, before he discovered that she testified against him for his role as a Death Eater.
Mother: Louisa Thibault (44, Beauxbatons), missing
Louisa hails from a respected pureblood wizarding family in Strasbourg, France. Her quiet marriage to Augustus was met with disdain, but begrudgingly accepted over time. The Thibault family owns land and rears magical creatures. Louisa herself writes on these creatures, and travels around the world to study them. Antonin looks forward to Christmas at the Thibault family estate every year, when he visits and stays with his cousins and toys with the idea of never going back home. Unfortunately, things have changed since Louisa went missing.
Half-Brother(s): Thaddeus Rookwood (21, Slytherin)
Born from a teenage relationship Augustus had at Hogwarts, Thaddeus became Theodora's ward when it was clear his father was disinterested to be a parent to him. He is, however, almost a carbon copy of Augustus. Ambitious and hungry for recognition, he secretly despises Antonin and Constance, and wishes to be the head of the Rookwood family when Eleanor dies, so that he can set things on their right path in the good tradition of proper pureblood wizarding families. He relishes Theodora's care for him, but will not hesitate to put his interests above hers.
Sister(s): Constance Rookwood (16, Slytherin)
Constance is Antonin's closest confidant, and the two often spend time together. This is even more so now ever since the dreadful family events, when Antonin started to become more reliant on his sister for familial affection. In return, Constance is very protective over her brother. Constance doesn't share Antonin's love for the Thibaults and their magical creatures. She prefers spending time with her grandmother, and doesn't hide her desire to be the next Rookwood matriarch.
