What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Liddy did not think this Hogwarts thing was working out. She hated the crowds, the British were always calling their American slang "cute", and she was expected to be pleasant and helpful - it was all really horrible. And recently, the castle itself seemed to be acting up. Lights flickering, the ferry seeming to get off course at random times, food just not appearing... Liddy knew she could not just blame the Hogwarts students, but they were the most recent change. It sort of had to be connected, right?

Nevertheless, class went on. Of course, they could always choose when to attend classes, but Liddy preferred classes to being forced to socialize with her peers. She typically attended the maximum amount a student could, taking off classes with the less competent classes to finish up homework. Her Friday had been a long one and when a note had crossed her desk saying there was going to be a party in the dorm, she made the decision to spend the night in the library. She didn't hate parties. Some nights, she needed one. But lately, she was so burnt out on people, she just... couldn't.

She changed out of her uniform and gathered her books in her backpack, before heading over to one of the magical lifts to go to the library. She slipped in, paying no attention to the others in the lift, and hit a button. Her eyes closed, arms crossed over her chest, she was someone not to mess with.

So why was life insisting on it?

The lift let out a strange groan and one of her eyes opened, giving the panel a look of irritated confusion. The groan gave way to a metallic shriek and the entire lift bucked, the lights turning out as the entire thing came to a stop.

Liddy's wand was out and illuminated in a second, and she was already at the panel, hitting buttons. Nothing seemed to work so she tapped the emergency button.

Nothing.

"G*ddammit," she muttered.

[OPEN] Stuck in a lift, just a bit miffed Empty Re: [OPEN] Stuck in a lift, just a bit miffed

Post by Leo Woods Fri May 06, 2016 6:51 am

Leo had just finished setting up a lovely little prank for whoever next decided to borrow out a copy of 'Magical Pranks, Jests and Trick by Silvia Nightcloud in which the person who opened the book would find themselves covered with some particularly bright, rainbow coloured goo that would take a long time to get off. At the thought of the goo Leo winced remembering all the different types of spells, charms and magical items he had used trying to remove the goo from himself in it's creation process. Even now he still had flecks of the rainbow in his hair and on his hands.

Wisely deciding he ought to be well away from the library when the next student opened the book Leo pushed a button to the magical lift waiting for a few moments before realizing that it hadn't worked. Leo frowned and pushed the button again and once more it refused to work. Which led to one obvious conclusion. The lifts were broken down. But the lifts were magic, and magic lifts did not break down. Leo glanced around the library which had chosen to the moment to seemingly become devoid of all other life.

"Well that's fantastic" Leo muttered as he pulled out his wand. The lifts were the only way down from the library and on top of that he dreaded to think that some poor student was stuck in a magic lift for a reason other than one of his pranks. He wasn't too sure a normal unlocking spell would work in this instance but hey, it was worth a shot, "Alohomora" he said hoping it would work. If not he could always try blasting the door.

She was inspecting the panel now, trying to figure out what options she had. She supposed, if worst came to worse, she could perform a sonorous and scream for help until someone came. She really did not like the idea of spending the night in the lift.

She reached forward and jostled the door, hoping the movement would somehow kickstart the whole thing. She heard a voice from the other side, however, and froze. "Hello?" she asked, stepping forward and pressing an ear to the door. Had she actually had the luck to stop at an actual floor? Was the trick just getting the door open?

The voice spoke again and the first pair of doors began to rattle open. She quickly performed the same spell, causing the second pair of doors to open as well, revealing a boy right in front of her. Woods. Leo, right? Something like that.

"Thanks, I-"

But he was hurrying into the lift, seemingly thinking the delay on the doors had been a temporary thing. She supposed, from the outside, it might seem like that. But from the inside...

The doors began to shudder closed and she was jerked from her thoughts as she attempted to slip through them, colliding instead with the crease they formed when they met.

She was still stuck here.

She slowly turned on the boy. "Now we're both stuck!"

((I can change the godmode if you'd like. I figured if he was in a hurry to escape, he would have rushed into the lift. And it's more fun to have them trapped in the lift than in the library.))

As the lift door opened Leo quickly slipped inside the lift eager to be out of sight before he got caught. What he didn't expect was for another person to be inside the lift. Leo raised his hands in placating gesture getting the feeling that if this girl got really angry it would be against the best interests of his health to stay near her. Unfortunately there's not many places to disappear to in a lift. "Relax, we'll just use the same spell" Leo said and turned to the door, "Alohomora". Nothing happened. Leo tried again, and frowned as the spell still didn't work.

It seemed magic wasn't quiet working on the lift anymore. Leo turned to Liddy and rubbed the back of his head with a hand in a frustrated mixed awkward gesture. "Ah so please don't murder me but it's seems like the spells work anymore" he informed her waiting to see her reaction.

((No that's alright, he was going to go in the lift anyway))

"That's not the point," Liddy said as the boy commented that they could use the same spell. What was the whole point of him coming in if they just had to turn around anyway...

Just as she suspected, the spell no longer worked. She sighed, her eyelids sliding shut as she lifted her head. "The lifts magic have been failing. It had enough to let us out once, but the magical reserves..." She opened her eyes and looked at the boy, who was probably just as idiotic as the rest of her peers. "You know what, forget it." The boy had reached the same realization, and the look on her face froze in mock surprise. "I hadn't noticed."

Leo raised an eyebrow at the girls sarcastic nature. As someone who had purposely broken the lifts before for the purpose of a prank he actually knew a decent amount about their functioning. But somehow he didn't think pointing this out would improve the girls mood so instead he took a seat, "well we will just have to wait till either someone finds us or the magic reserves restore themselves" Leo said as he leaned back against the wall of the lift.

Restoring the reserves would take a few hours at most and presently they were in danger of nothing but boredom. Leo twirled his wand in his hand, so long as the magic stabilising the lift didn't fault they were in no danger. If it did fault...Leo winced at the thought. Unlike muggle lifts the magic lift was not held by ropes or cables. It was held solely by magic. Leo knew the chances of the lift destabilising were next to none but then again the lifts rarely, if ever broke down.

Liddy groaned, once again tilting her chip upwards and closing her eyes, falling against the side of the lift, her head bumping against the wall. She had left to escape and make a productive night out of an otherwise useless one. And now, because of the stupid Hogwarts students and this idiot next to her, she was going to waste a lot of time.

She bristled, feeling the need to tear into the boy and tell him that, if it wasn't for him, she would have been in the library, not in the stupid lift. But she knew how quickly she could escalate, and she really didn't feel like talking to him anyway. She sighed and opened her eyes.

"This sucks."
