So, Jack's life had been fairly interesting as of late. The Ministry was almost back up and going. Sunny was in a school play. Knight's Watch was getting reorganized.
Oh, and, yeah, she was in love with her roommate.
Nothing had been happening for her for a very long time, and then it had seemed everything was happening. Jack's head had been a whirlwind as she tried to right herself, tried to understand just what was going on in her life. How could she be spending part of her day dislocating people's shoulders with a Bludger, head into the Ministry where she dealt with secrets she couldn't tell anyone, and then fell to pieces at home because her hand had accidentally brushed Max's, and she wasn't sure what to make of that.
Domestic life was much harder than people gave it credit for.
But nights like tonight made up for it.
First off, it was nice to be doing some real work. Gabby had tracked someone down for the Knight's Watch - someone who had supposedly helped James Blood target children by separating them from their parents. Remy had spotted the guy, some bloke by the name of Don, heading into the Leaky Cauldron. Jack had been planning with Gabby and Kip when they decided there was no time like the present.
Jack stepped into the familiar bar, unzipping her jacket as she looked around. She approached the bar and ordered a round of whiskeys. Gabby pounded one down and Kip and Jack turned their eyes onto him. "What? It's after two." Kip shook his head and Jack let out a scoff, casting an eye around the bar. She spotted a man in a windbreaker, looking very much like the man they were after. "That him?" Gabby squinted at the man, reaching for Kip's whiskey and tossing that back as well. "Yeah."
Jack drank her whiskey and slid the glasses back to the bartender, standing. Gabby and Kip turned back to bar and ordered more drinks while she crossed the room, taking a seat at the man's table, where he was sitting with three other guys. "Alright?" she asked. "You Don?"
Don looked at his friends. "Who wants to know?"
Jack rolled her eyes. "That's a tired line, don't you think? I was wondering if I could request a private audience, as it were."
Don sat back, smirking. "Liking what you see."
Jack lifted an eyebrow. Had she been a more sexual human, she probably could have used that to her advantage. But... ew. You know? "Actually, I'm not here to offer you... services." Gross. "I was wanting to talk to you about services you offered someone else. A James Blood."
It was a domino effect after that. Don stood up and took for the door, but Kip slashed the air, blockading the door with tables. Don's mates stood, trying to block Jack as she took off after him, but she was much smaller and managed to dodge them. Gabby lept over a table and intercepted the men, pulling his wand on them as Jack whipped her wand on Don, who was forced to turn around by Kip, who was standing stoically at the door with his wand raised.
"Alright, Don, we just want to talk," Jack said.
Suddenly, one of his mates reached out to punch Gabby, who ducked. The fist connected with a man walking by, who immediately shoved Gabby, right into one of the other men.
And then it all exploded. Fists flying, kicks connecting, spells whizzing about. And in the thick of it, Jack was throwing elbows and shooting curses, feeling so incredibly alive.
