The blonde's eyes jumped around, taking in all of the shops as best as she could. It had been literally months since she had even seen Diagon Alley, and now she couldn't quite believe she was walking through it again. Not two weeks ago she had believed herself to be dying. Believed that she would never see this place or any other parts of the Wizarding World again. She certainly hadn't expected to be going around getting school supplies.
That was probably the strangest - and, really, the hardest - part about being where she was. The fact that she had to go back to Hogwarts as a sixteen year old but be a year behind was frustrating - almost to the point of being infuriating. But Katherine had long since lost that passion that made her angered or made her love Potions and Herbology as she had. Now she didn't have the energy to focus on most anything, and all she could hope for was a quiet school year in which people didn't ask her too many questions and didn't try and treat her like a child. Yes, she had some problems and would need to talk through things or avoid certain trigger situations, but she also didn't need people to try and help her avoid them. Being independent sounded a lot better than reliant on someone else.
"Kit."
Blinking hard, she turned her head and looked up at her brothers, realizing that they had been watching her. "You're doing it again," Mesut pointed out, gesturing to her hands.
She had recently taken up clasping her hands together and digging her nails into the fingers of the opposite hand. This, of course only happened when she was particularly anxious or wanted to get away from the situation she was in. Once, Lucas had asked why she was holding her hands like an opera singer, but then understood when she relaxed her arms and he saw the half-moon shaped marks on the insides of her fingers.
Katherine's hands fell to her sides and her cheeks colored red in embarrassment. "Right. Sorry," she offered quietly, instead clasping them behind her back.
"We need to go grab some Quidditch supplies, yeah? But we'll only be gone a few minutes," Luke promised. "If you can't find the right books, just come get us."
Katherine nodded, trying not to question the fact that she so easily took their coddling when despised it from everyone else. But after they left, she bit her lip and looked around. Heading off in the direction of the book store, Kit let herself just look around at the people and shops in front of her. Suddenly, she saw someone who looked extremely familiar. One of her old dormitory roommates to be specific. But now Jessica would be a year ahead of her and they would not be sharing a space as they had in the past.
Although she usually wouldn't have initiated a conversation, Katherine knew that if she wanted to have anyone at all to talk to at school, she had to start trying to get to know her old friends. It wouldn't be that easy for her, and she would have to learn to talk louder since that was one of her main struggles now. But she decided to go with her gut feeling anyway, so she sped up and tried to reach her old friend.
"Jessica?" She asked, her voice not really carrying very far, but hopefully loud enough to get the other girl's attention.
