These are just guidelines, and since they're new for us, they will probably by changing quite a lot through the school year. PLEASE READ THESE COMPLETELY BEFORE ACCEPTING A HOGWARTS JOB!
Fall term—9/1 til 11/30 (mid term. 10/13--Winter Class proposals due)
Winter Term—12/1 til 2/28 (mid term 1/12--Spring Class proposals due)
Christmas Break--12/22-1/4
Spring Term—3/1 til 6/1
Spring Break--3/30-4/5
Guest Lecturers--1 per term. Guest lecturers must apply and propose their class by pm'ing an admin with a description of the class. Guest lecturers must have class applied for and approved by midterm date for each term. This is the place for some really creative sorts of classes--whether its Quidditch class, or Dragon Rearing, or Apparating and Porting, etc.
Class postings--1 post per week minimum for all. Teachers will keep track of their own posts and students. (Teachers will need this info for house points) Mods will keep track of teachers. If more than 3 consecutive posts are missed, the student will be put in “detention”. If a student misses more than 5 consecutive posts (five weeks of posting in classes, we will need to remove them from the class roster b/c that will be almost half a term) If a student wants to re-enter a class, they will need to ask to be re-added.
Classes will most likely need to be experiential in nature. Lecture based classes don't usually work really well unless the professors actually prepare a real class lesson and do all the legwork just as if they were teaching a real class, and that's immensely hard work. Staff need to be prepared to help staff come up with creative ideas for classes, adventures, field trips. etc.
If a teacher misses more than 3 consecutive weeks without notifying an admin (when not an emergency situation) or engaging an approved substitute, the sub will be retained for the remainder of the term by the admins. For a professor to get his/her class back, that will need to be approved by the admins. The admins will need to determine if the professor gets the class back, if the job will be re-offered, or if it is necessary for the class to close, depending on participation. If a sub is recruited to keep a class, then a new job listing will be posted for a new sub. A class that has insufficient participation can be closed at any point during the school year.
Heads of House, Professors, or the Headmaster can issue and/or conduct detention threads. Further, new this year, Headmaster will be able to determine in-school suspensions and can create what sort of task the student will be doing (hopefully, in conjunction with the student's player) Might be working w/ caretaker, etc. (Detention or in school suspension could be very valuable personal plotting points and encourage grad/student interaction)
In a 13 week term, teachers are expected to conduct 3-4 different lessons minimally, lasting approx. 2-4 weeks per lesson. House points are to be given, attendance, etc., and feedback given to students at least at the beginning of class, midterm and at finals.
Heads of House are expected, as part of their job duties, to be interactive w/ students re: classes, out of class behaviors, mentoring on skills, reviewing internship participation, visiting job sites to see student’s performance, talking w/ job site employers, etc., as determined by personal plotting of student and HoH's?
House points--Teachers and Staff need to add/remove house points towards the house cup competition by making note in the house cup threads. Staff will be keeping the totals accordingly.
