LONDON, UK – May 24, 2014 – The Ministry for Magic today announced that Gideon Pierce has been named Deputy Minister, effective 26 May 2014. As announced to the Wizengamot on 27 April, Gideon Pierce will be stepping up from his previous occupation as Ministry Attorney to assume a more important role.
“It is a privilege to serve my country in whatever way I can,” said Gideon Pierce, upcoming Deputy Minister for Magic, “I am deeply humbled and honored by our beloved Minister’s vote of confidence in me as he recovers, and I will do my very best to restore the people's faith in their government."[/quote]
For those witches and wizards who didn’t catch the important press release issued just this morning by the Ministry of Magic, above is an excerpt letting you know what you’ve missed. Yes ladies and gents, we have a new Deputy Minister!
Storming into the Ministry as soon as I heard the news, this reporter managed to snag a quick interview with Mr. Pierce himself! The handsome soon-to-be Deputy Minister is currently forty years old, and was a Slytherin when attending the renowned Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Just for you, dear readers, I chased down the Minister’s Undersecretary and was lucky enough to find her between meetings. I, of course, asked her what she thought about the new change in power. “I’ll admit, I was a little disappointed I didn’t get the job myself, at first,” the Marie Voisard confided with a laugh, “but didn’t last more than five seconds. I’m pleased with the decision. I’ve worked a little with Gideon in the past, and he’s great. He has experience with all aspects of the Ministry, and he knows how to get the job done. I look forward to working with him more closely.”
Mildly surprised that the charming but reserved Undersecretary seemed enamored, I went in search of another member of Ministry staff Mr. Pierce would’ve had contact with. “He’s efficient,” Law Department employee Scorpius Malfoy stated, “he’s intelligent and driven, and I think the Ministry needs someone like that in power now more than ever.”
Finally, I got ahold of the man himself, and asked the question that we have all been thinking. What will Mr. Pierce be doing with his newfound power? “I will be launching a full investigation into the propriety of the recent changes to our laws,” Gideon told me, “as well as launching a larger scale effort to reduce the violence caused by the certain magical creatures that have been allowed to roam unchecked. It is time to usher peace and order back into our world.”
Now, dear readers, it isn’t often that this reporter gets excited about the inner workings of our government, but today that most certainly had changed. Yes, the beloved Elijah Krum has stepped down from his position at our Minister’s side, but considering who will take his place, I feel little disappointment. Mr. Krum has served the people well, but I look forward to the new things that will come now that he has stepped down to spend more time with his, admittedly, adorable family.
Congratulations Deputy Minister Pierce!
