WAND: Redwood, Erkling Darts, 12.5 inches, slightly bendy
“Wand-quality redwood is in short supply, yet constant demand, due to its reputation for bringing good fortune to its owner. As is usually the case with wandlore, the general populace has the truth back to front: redwood wands are not themselves lucky, but are strongly attracted to witches and wizards who already possess the admirable ability to fall on their feet, to make the right choice, to snatch advantage from catastrophe.”
“Erkling Darts are found in the wands of those who tend to command the limelight with a smile, and have the natural allure that allows them to convince others to do their bidding. Erkling Wands are often in the hands of actors, musicians, or other performing artists. The Darts increase prowess in Hexes and Charms, but detract from defensive magic.”
PLAY BY: Adriana Lima (and Kat Moenning)

CHARACTER HISTORY
------------------------------------------------------------
Early Years:
Marie was born on the first day of February, at 8:52am Greenwich mean time. The pregnancy of her mother Inès had been unexpected. Despite that, and the unfortunately inconvenient time of her birth, Marie was welcomed into the family with open arms and many smiles. Marie’s childhood was quite unconventional, considering that her father was in the Mafia, but the young girl never thought twice about it, having not known anything else.
Marie grew up learning things that most parents would never consider teaching their children. Her extended family taught the girl how to wield a dagger, how to appear threatening, and how to manipulate with words. Her father, on the other hand, coddled his only child. Jean-Paul tried to ensure that his daughter was protected from and as unexposed as possible to the danger and violence he faced on a daily basis. Marie was completely unaware of this, of course, being an innocent young girl.
School Years:
Her parents spent quite a long time debating upon what Marie would be doing for schooling once she reached the age of eleven. Her father was of the opinion that she should just continue to be taught by hired tutors. Whether the man simply didn’t want to let his daughter go, or was afraid for her safety without his protection, Marie had no idea. Either way, her mother won that particular argument, a rare occurrence, and she was sent to Beauxbatons Academy of Magic.
Marie hadn’t spent all that much time around children her own age, so the first few weeks of school were extraordinarily painful for the young witch. For the first time in her life, she was away from home and in an unfamiliar place where she didn’t know a soul. Obviously, there was a girl in the school whose family had some connection to her family’s business, because word of her father’s occupation spread quickly. It was in the middle of her third week of school when a girl a year older approached her, and bravely asked if the rumors were true. Marie bit back with a snappy retort, and the other witch responded sarcastically, completely unimpressed. By the end of the conversation the two were laughing, and Marie had made her first friend.
Two months later, Marie was popularamong those her age and with the students one and two years above. This was a trend that would continue throughout all of her years at the school, popularity only growing as she did. The female was a complete socialite, knowing basically everyone and disliked by few. To put it simply, Marie Voisard thrived.
As far as her literal education went, Marie did fairly. She was intelligent, but mostly in ways that weren’t anything a standardized test could show, and she didn’t quite have the magical power to perfectly preform some of the more demanding spells. The only reason the witch did as well as she had, was due to her organization and strategic way of thinking. Marie had a talent for looking at a test, and simply understanding the best way to go about it. All of her friends went to her for help devising study guides for their OWL’s and NEWT’s, knowing that the teenager would devise the perfect plan that factored in all of their weak points, what times they would be most productive, and balancing it all in a way so that they wouldn’t feel pressured or overwhelmed. Marie’s talent with planning was what set her apart.

Adulthood:
A part of Marie had always known that she’d end up in her father’s “line of work” upon growing up. When she was full exposed to it at the age of 17, however, the witch found herself far less fond of the idea than had been expected. She’d sat down with her father, terrified that she’d disappointed him, and truthfully explained exactly what felt so wrong for her. Jean-Pierre had just looked at her thoughtfully and not said a word. The next day he’d introduced her to one of his connections in the black market, and Marie found her niche.
It was hard work, at first. She was a pretty, young witch, and very few took her seriously. Horrifically frustrated, Marie can home one day and drastically changed her appearance into something that she hoped would be feared instead of leered at. It worked far better than she had expected, and from then on she wore a completely different face every time she “went to work”. Marie slowly but surely got more and more involved and respected within the French underground. The woman had always been very careful not to let people her full name when in disguise, but eventually hit the point where she would need a name, something for people to refer to her by. The Frenchwoman had been at a complete loss, when her familiar had landed lightly upon the back of her hand. Her unusual pet meant a lot to her, as Marie had the rare genetic talent of being about to speak to animals. Particularly, butterflies. While butterflies were generally not intelligent enough for her to hold conversation with, most magical varieties could at least communicate basic meanings. Marie had stroked on of Alis’s wings and smiled. She’d gotten the tattoo the next day, and Le Papillon had been born.
Marie spent the next few years perfectly content. She was practically running the French underground, held much power in the black market, and had her own private little sect of assassins. None were as talented as her best friend, but Marie wasn’t stupid enough to hold them to such a high standard.
Katrina-Carlotta had been Marie’s best friend for years, ever since the younger witch had tried to capture the Du Hunt. How she’d ended up with a friend instead of murdered, she still wondered at times. So when her friend had asked her for a large favor, involving spending some time in England and Death Eaters, Marie had agreed. After all, the other woman had done her countless favors over the years. It was pure luck that Marie had been holding the Chief of Staff position in the Law Enforcement Division of the French Ministry at the time, purely for informational purposes. The woman had pulled a few strings, found out the English Ministry was thinking about looking for a new Head of their Law Enforcement Department, and slipped into the spot easily and quietly enough. Katrina-Carlotta had been quite impressed.
