Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Just Another New Kid Empty Just Another New Kid

Post by Vivianna Varnes Mon Mar 25, 2013 10:38 pm

Hey everyone! I'm Kitty (or Vivianna, to your characters) and I'm totally new to PA. I've spent hours upon hours exploring this place and am beyond excited. If anyone wishes to rp or be a friend- that would be really cool.

For those of you who have been around for a bit, I have three questions left unanswered from my explorations:
1. What is karma?
2. How are house points earned?
3. What exactly does one do in a job?

Thanks, and I look forward to seeing you around!

Hi I'm Nick!

1. Karma is a voting system of sorts. If a person dislikes a member's post then karma goes down to negative 1. If someone likes something it goes up to positive 1.
2. House points are earned mostly by doing classes.
3. Jobs add to your characters experience here on PA.

Hey Nick!
Thanks for telling me how Karma works, I'll have to keep that in mind.
On the topic of classes and jobs, how exactly does one go to class, or attend work?

To attend class a professor will usually send out a pm. Then you post in that class going in and participating, like a normal rp.

For work it's not that hard. If someone posts in that store send them a pm asking if they need your assistance as an employee.

Fair enough, awesome! Thanks!
Are the classes at all regular, or are they spontaneous?

They can be regular when the professors are active. I'm cec/Kayla what ever but I'm logged in as Quelyn my favorite of the day.

Hi! First, let me say I'm super excited to have you! My name is Jackles and I'm PA's resident nutjob. They love me though. RIGHT GUYS!?

Just so you know, karma isn't really a system that has any purpose more than the occasional indicator about a post. Most of the time, karma isn't used, but if you feel very strongly about a post, that's usually when it is used.

House points was explained. Thanks Nick! And as Cec said, class regularity fluctuates with the activity of the professors, but also the students. The best way to keep classes going is to just post in them, really.

Jobs aren't just shops. The full jobs list is here. Jobs simply help flesh out your character better. Some jobs, like authors, will not actually need to be developed in character, but are sort of just apart of your character. Others require participation - such as working in the Ministry or Mungo's. PA is always looking for more activity in jobs. When you decide on a job for your character, the best thing to do is PM the supervisor (or if you choose something on the misc. list, then someone already doing the job) to see what needs to be done. If you are the boos/owner/manager, PM an admin to ask for assistance, or just get to it.

I hope that helped! If have any other questions or want to RP, feel free to send me a PM! I love helping out our new members!

-Jackles.

Kayla- thanks for the help on that! I've been wondering.

Jackles- Thanks for the warm welcome, I kinda already adore you. Us crazies gotta stuck together, right? Thanks for going a little more in-depth about karma, I can't wait to get more involved in PA.

The run-down of jobs was super helpful, everything makes a lot more sense now.
I would love to RP with you! You don't happen to have any 5th years do you? Or any Hufflepuffs? I just realised I've never spoken to a Hufflepuff...

Ugh. You adore me? Now I HAVE to love you! My ego demands it. Having so many adoring fans and returning the love can be soooo tiring. -slips hair and hits self in face by accident-

I'm glad to hear your crazy. While not a requirement of PA, being a little insane is helpful.

I don't have fifth years and I've only ever had one Huffer. XD I do have two fourth year Ravenclaws (one is an antisocial drug dealer and the other is an American party-girl sociopath) and a sixth year Slytherin. xD My character run down is always a bit chaotic.

Your ego demands it? Well in that case, I think your ego and I will be great friends. Yes, clearly your masses of adoring fans have tired you out, I do appologise for taking up more of your precious time.

Good to hear that I'll fit in here at PA. Although I personally believe that we're all just a little bit insane. Some just more so than others.

Ooooooooh! Sounds like Vivianna could totally have fun with either of your Ravens, or your Slyth. I can totally see her attempting to disect the drug-dealer, and either hating or loving the party-girl, but doing crazy stuff with her anyway.
Chaotic? Sounds fun!!

So, preferences?
