Shadow was so incredibly ignorant to the implications of her actions. She thought that because she had certain morals, the best thing to do was to flaunt them. What the silly little girl did not realize, was that if people caught on, she was ruined. She would be forced into a life so strongly against what she believed, her own morals would soon escape her cursed life. She would live dependent on everyone, in the hands of a pureblood man allowed to do as he would to her, with no chance to pursue anything she wished. Penny had dreams, too, but she would not accomplish any of them by shaming her family and the code they lived by. She planned on surviving, though Shadow seemed to have a death wish.
"I can have fun in better ways," Penny hissed. Shadow continued on, making a bold claim. Penny had never said to anyone her own doubts about her parent's policies. She had never seemed anything but a pureblood conformist. She paled, instantly, and said in a hollow voice, "I don't know what you're talking ab- Just get over here!"
Shadow obeyed, and immediately spoke of trivial matters. Penny had received her letter the day before, as her parents typically wrote her longer letters of their disapproval at her being so old and so single, so well supported and so plain, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. But Penny was too angry to respond to her sister about trivial things. In a quiet voice, she said, "I can't believe you, Shadow. You're a fool, you know that? I catch you, risking everything, and you want to comment on a letter from our mother and father. You're ridiculous!"
