covered by the clouds

It was cold on that late autumn day as Quelyn sat in the shadows of the castle watching the sun slowly set. She did not sleep much home or at school, though school was more of a home to her than the house where she and her father resided. Sighing she pulled her knees up to her and hugged there resting her chin upon her bent leg and looking up at the sky. Soon she would have to retreat inside away from the sun. She feared the night, yet she lived for it, in it. The night was when he would attack. Late when he was drunk is when he would come. A chill flew through her body and she shrugged her hair off her shoulder remembering the night when her father last came home and she had waited for him.

The weather was getting colder and colder, and Sarah had ended up getting sick by this stupid weather. Her brother ordered her to stay inside, but Sarah being a outdoor girl headed downstairs towards the Entrance Hall and out towards the lake. Sarah knew if Sam found out that she was out here, he would kill her but she'll take him chewing her out later. Opening the door of the entrance hall Sarah smiled as she felt the breeze hit her face but then let out a small cough. Sarah knew she should probably go to the hospital wing, but she hated it there, she hated the plain walls and just hospitals themselves.

Skipping down the sloping lawn of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardly heading towards the lake. Saying hi to a couple of people on her way towards the lake she stopped dead in her tracks as she seen a little girl by herself. She looked to be a first year by the looks of her. "What are you doing out here alone in the cold?"Sarah asked her softly.

Quelyn jumped startled by the voice she hadn't been expecting, even though it had been a quiet whispered. "Watching," She replied with out looking up. she blinked back the few tears she had welling up in her eyes, "And thinking thoughts." she finally looked up and back at the girl who had spoken. She was older and not from Ravenclaw, possibly Hufflepuff, deffinately not Slytherin. "What about you Ms. Coughs-a-lot? The cold winter is not for a sick person to be out in." she stared up unblinkingly for a minute before turning around.

Sarah nodded understanding. "Ah... I got ya."said Sarah softly as she looked at the sunset and smiled. "It is beautiful isn't? crazy how you miss the littlest of things when your gone for a week."said Sarah softly. When she was at her cruel and mean grandparents house, she didn't see daylight or anything she just cleaned and worked and if she didn't well... that was a issue she didn't want to talk about. Only person who knew of this doing was Sam and Zandell only but no one else. Although she was glad that she was away from there, she still had nightmares of it.

Sarah laughed at her reply. "Yeah I guess I am that, but I been inside basically all day and I hate being locked up like a prisoner!"said Sarah honestly. "I'm Sarah, Sarah Nesbitt fifth year Gryffindor."said Sarah softly.

"And if you had no choice but to stay inside? Stay out of the sun?" Quelyn tilted her head to the side a little a tint of red in her chocolate brown eyes. "You are no where near being a prisoner, where there are many here who are, prisoners of the night, Werewolves and Vampires." The girl she spoke to smelled deliciously of rich blood, and it was almost unbearable to the young girl. Biting her lip she turned her head away from the girl and held her breath pretending like she was breathing by moving her shoulders as humans would.

Sarah's emerald eyes looked back at the little girl. "I may not be a vampire or werewolf but I know what it feels like not to see the sun light or not even night!"said Sarah looking at the girl. It was a story she didn't want to tell, but it was something that been going on since she was little until now. She never told a soul about all the issues in her life, she didn't want to sound like she was a baby. Sarah was starting not to like this little girl, even if she was a first year. Besides, she was a first year, she shouldn't have to explain herself to a girl who was younger then her.

Sarah was usually always nice to anyone, especially little first years who were new to Hogwarts. Looking at the girl one last time she shook her head before heading down towards the lake. She wasn't going to let anyone ruin her day, especially some first year girl.
