Why Does the Workweek Start on Monday?

Khaat made her way to her office. Without being able to stop at Sparks now for her cup of french roast or a scone, it felt like the work week got off to a slower start. She had gotten a cup of what she thought was lousy coffee downstairs in the atrium, and she picked up a couple of pieces of fresh fruit and had made her way up to her office.

Her secretary had resigned because she had gotten pregnant and wanted to spend more time with her new baby. So the office was dark when she went in. Khaat spoke the enchantment that turned on the lights and she made her way to her office. She came back out, after putting her things on her desk, to throw out the dead flowers the secretary left throughout the outer office and the waiting area.

She needed a new secretary. And soon.

What could Jess say about Monday? It ended the weekend, and it was longer to Friday than Friday was to Monday, it was crap.
Jessica had had a long relative that had been working for a woman called Kat or something, apparently it was her last day, before resigning for her family. She held a bouquet in her left hand and smoothed out her hair with her right.

She walked towards the direction of the office, and cleared out her voice. She was wearing glasses although she didn't need them, and a white blouse, tucked in to her black skirt, her flaxen hair, straightened behind her petite shoulders.

As she reached the office, she let out a final cough, and knocked on the door quickly.

"Come in," Khaat called cheerfully, depositing the shrivelled roses in her wastebasket. She swept the fallen petals off the desk and tossed them away too. She flicked her wand at the teapot and the coffee pot to start them to brew. There was a huge stack of mail on the secretary's desk awaiting sorting and handling. Lovely.

And then she noticed the secretary had left her little bowl with her beta behind. "Good morning, Fred," Khaat said, picking up the fish food and sprinking a wee bit on the top of the water. The fish seemed grateful to be getting something to eat after having nothing over the weekend to eat.

The voice seemed sweet, but that've could've just been her imagination . "Oh, Um, Hi," she said choking on her own words, meeting people wasn't her thing, especially adults, especially Ministry Officials. "I'm Jess, Jess Macmillan," she said, and offered out her hand. "I'm looking for Mrs. Lloyd, I believe she works with you? Or maybe I have the wrong office" she said, waiting for confirmation.

Her feet shuffled uncomfortably, this is why she hated Mondays.

"Hello, Jess. I'm Khaat--Khaat Lupin. I'm the Chief Warlock," She shook hands with the young girl. "I wish Mrs. Lloyd were here too. But she doesn't work here anymore. Unfortunately for me. Its a good thing for her--she gets to spend more time at home with her new baby. But as for me, it leaves me in a bit of a pickle. I'm afraid. Clearly, no one has remembered to look for a new receptionist for me. Is there something I can help you with? Or were you looking specifically for Mrs. Lloyd?" She flicked her fingers at the tea mugs to set themselves in place and watched for a moment to see if they were, in fact, going to march to their places obediently. Then she turned her glance back at Jess.

"Oh," she said, her voice slightly lifting to her normal voice, "We'll not really, I just wanted to deliver some flowers to her, but I guess I can't" she said, her eyes shifting and scanning the room. She looked at a desk, and saw a stackful if papers on a desk, and she pointed at them, "I guess that was her job," she said scoffing.

But then her eyes widened, but she forgot her important thought. She went towards the door, but turned around, "do you need any help?"

"that was her job. She made sure that the offices were opened and ready in the mornings. She made sure we always had fresh flowers and fresh coffee and tea. She opened the mail and took care of writing my letters sending my owls, and doing my filing. She made my appointments for me and greeted any of the staff or visitors that came into the Wizengamot offices. She did a lot for me.

"Are you interested in a part time job?" Khaat asked. "I presume you're still in school, yes? We do hire students part time, and sometimes, if they're working as interns, then some of their work here applies to their grades at Hogwarts. You would have to keep the rest of your grades up, though. Do you think you can do that? If so, then, yes. I could very much use the help."

A grin appeared on her face as Mrs. Lupin asked her this. "Yes I would," she said beaming, it was something to take her mind off Edgar and Amelia, and if it went towards grades, she was in. "I am a sixth year, my mother is Susan Bones, from the Daily Prophet, you might know her?" She wasn't so excited usually but working for a big shot was a big deal.

"You don't have to worry about my grades Mrs. Lupin, I received more then Satisfactory in all if my grades and maintain them. I'm up for anything," her smile ever so slowly fading, "when can I start?"

"Yes, I do know your mother," Khaat said. Khaat knew Susan was a protective mother and had a right to be. But Jess was clearly old enough to make her own choices about a part time job. "I do not expect you to put yourself in any dangerous situation here. Not ever. I can't say that it hasn't happened. You need to know, though, that there is no guarantee that there won't be any drama here. Courtrooms revolve around all sorts of drama. I'm not opposed to hiring you. I just want you to know that it might not be the same as perhaps being a clerk in a shop. But--if you'd like to do this..." she opened one of the desk drawers and got out a couple of applications. "Have a seat here at the desk and complete the application so that I can do what I need to do to hire you. How soon could you start?"
