With each step that she made closer to the trainstation, Avis felt how all the happiness was sucked out of her, leaving nothing but a hallow creature walking in this station. Lucy was right next to her, laughing and talking about how she missed Hogwarts and how much she wanted to go back there. Avis never bothered to reply to her mother. She just stared at the ground, face motionless and calm.
Though she was (maybe lucky) enough not to catch this strange flu, she feared what might be waiting for her in school. How many students were infected and how many of them were still in their beds, not able to move or speak.
Picture of Kayla's death still haunted her. And the fact that some of the students might die there, at the hospital wing, actually frightened her. „Hold on now,“ said her mother as she gave Avis a slight push and she ran towards the wall. Within a second, everything changed. She was now in another world full of children of her age. Though they looked so different, they all same thing in common. Magic.
„Here's your ticket,“ said Lucy. Avis accepted it and put it in her pocket. Mother took an advantage of that and also made her grey skirt look perfect. She was already wearing a school uniform which earned lot of glares from the muggles. „Are all your books in your bag?“ Lucy asked, looking down at the huge trunk.
„Yes,“ Avis replied unpatiently. She'd rather sit in the train than wait till her mother says all the good byes. It seemed like Lucy wanted to check everything on her own but held herself back. So she raised her head and looked around to see if there were some familiar faces.
„Oh my,“ said Avis suddenly, looking at her wrist-watch. „It seems that I must hurry now.“
„Sweetie,“ Lucy hugged her tightly as if they were never going to meet again. „I've put some glasses and herbs that your grandmother sent in your bag. You know, just in case. She said that you know what to do with them. Oh, and by the way,“ she let go of Avis and looked her directly in the eye:“Be a good girl and send me a letter when you arrive.“
„Yes, mother.“
With that, Avis was left alone. She sighed quietly and walked towards the train. It was easy for her to find an empty compartment. As she settled down there, she took out her book about basic chemistry and started reading it. And with no one there, she allowed herself the luxury of putting her legs also on the seat, feeling now more comfortable than before.
