Her clothing is traditional cotton wizarding robes, always dark colours, though, since life in a school of magic is rather like living in a gigantic play group and the darker the robe the less likely it is to stain. Early Years:
Melinda Thornton's early years were for her dull and boring. She was brought up with the wonder of magic, but being from a magical family it seemed not so wonderful to her.
It was not until just before her eleventh birthday, when rumours began spreading of an evil wizard gathering power that things started to sound interesting to the naive little girl.
Hogwarts Years: Melinda began attending Hogwarts two years behind the Mauraders. Everyone thought they were hilarious, but ever a serious child, Melinda disagreed.
As well, those boys were all so star struck by the red haired girl who seemed far too stuck up for Melinda's taste. That is, until she found out that Lily Evans was part of the Slug Club! Not that it made her any more appealing as a person, but Melinda was desirous of achieving Professor Slughorn's notice on account of how she was ever so clever.
And then, before she even knew it, Lily Evans had left school and got married and got killed and the war was over. Or at least, that's what they said.
Adulthood:
After school, Melinda began to work at the Ministry of Magic. It was the done thing. She began as an intern, because that was what you did. She was shuffled through the different departments, mostly fetching coffee and making appointments and occassionally taking notes for people (or at least, that's what they called it, really it was watching a qwik-quotes quill to make sure it didn't make mistakes). Eventually, she ended up in social welfare, attached to the Department of Magical Law.
Several months later, Melinda was transferred to Greenman's School For Delinquent Witches & Wizards. It was basically a tiny version of Azkaban, but without the dementors and all the criminals were pint sized. And it was her job to educate them not only in magic, but in morality and ethics as well.
Now, having been asked to step down as Headmistress of Greenman's (after it took her so long to work her way up there!) because at a mere sixty two years of age, some fool child at the Ministry has decided she's "too old" to deal with these young things any more, Melinda has decided to offer her years of experience to Hogwarts. If what she's heard is true, it won't be very different.
