Gena favors casual and modest clothing, so she's usually found sporting long skirts or jeans and cardigans. She tends to gravitate towards light-colored shirts. She's fond of sneakers. Her hair is almost always put in two low ponytails on either side of her head with a straight fringe. Gena's fairly self-conscious about her remaining pudge so she frets over covering it up.

PERSONALITY: Gena’s main basis as a person is her social assertiveness and generally friendly persona towards everyone she comes across. She’ll work off of anything just to keep the conversation going as long as possible, so Gena can be quite random and sporadic in that sense. She also has a tendency to be overly confident and self-assured; it’s as if she thinks herself invincible at times. However, she is secretly self-conscious about her body.
Gena hardly worries about her well-being and is assured nothing will happen to her in tough spots, but, although endlessly optimistic, she can be quite the worry-wart over others. When it comes to her own feelings, she’s coarse and it takes a lot for her to get sentimental and need a shoulder to lean on. She’s generally rebellious when it comes to conforming, but very much loyal when it comes to any of her friends.
Gena has always been opinionated and very inflexible in her beliefs. It doesn’t take much for her to snap at someone, but Gena usually gets over it quickly. She can be pretty aggressive and grudging if pushed far enough, though. Gena is obsessive over any interests she might have at the time and it can lead to her being quite overbearing. Gena is also prone to bouts of perceptiveness and follows her gut-instinct most of the time.

Early Years: Gena's father, Charles, and his older brother, Landon, had attended Hogwarts and been raised in Wales. Gena's Muggleborn mother grew up in Wales as well and also attended Hogwarts. The sudden disappearance of her Uncle Landon rocked her father's family and it took a long time for the Bernards to get over the shock. Her parents met during their fifth year and became a couple towards the end of their sixth. Gena was born into a warm, loving family in a stable environment.
As she grew up, Gena hadn't had any real problems with anything. Her worst memory occurred when she was five however. She tried to cut herself an orange and sliced her middle finger on the left hand. She received stitches and the pain made her afraid of needles. Primary school was fun and she had a good life. Her father works at St. Mungo's as a Healer in Spell Damage and her mother is a housewife. Gena was well aware about her Uncle Landon, and because so little was said about him she was naturally curious. She never asked, though, because she figured it wasn't tactful. Gena was also almost not sent to Hogwarts because of the rise of trouble. When she received her Hogwarts letter, she was ecstatic and the little family celebrated accordingly.
Hogwarts Years: Gena's first year at Hogwarts was absolutely amazing. She was making friends, finding her strengths and weaknesses regarding her magical studies and writing frantic, detailed letters to her parents about her experience. However, it would be impossible to ignore just what was happening at Hogwarts during that year. Danger was apparent and it was all she could do to convince her parents there was no reason to take her out of school.
In the summer before her second year, however, she was entrusted with something very important to the Bernard family; the family ring. It had been residing on the ring finger of her father, Charles. She'd admired it since she was aware of its existence and had been waiting for the day she could wear it herself until she passed it on. Her father explained its importance and just how long its been around, as well as how it was customary for the first child to wear it. What she doesn't know is that the family ring given to her is just a copy of the actial one. Her Uncle Landon disappeared and the ring with him.
This was the same day she really found out what had happened to her Uncle Landon. He wore the ring first and it was lucky he had forgotten the ring at home before he went into the Department of Mysteries that summer he disappeared. That was the beginning of an obsession. Ever since that summer she had spent most of her second year at Hogwarts hunting for any information related to the Department and what happened to her Uncle Landon while balancing classes and her social life. It was also the beginning of a fear of the Department and of anything like that happening again.
Gena's third year has been fairly uneventful and full of bitter disappointment in regard to her research. People have been falling off the face of the planet and it stirs fear in her. She's been constantly sending letters to her family and anxiously waiting for them to be replied. The rational part of her brain is telling her that if she really wants to do something worthwhile, she should be helping with the bigger situation. She's still been researching what her rational mind calls the 'lesser problem', though.

Gena yawned and rubbed her eyes frantically. No way was she going to sleep now that she had found some more information about the Department. Granted, it was only a measly little three paragraphs, but at this point she'd take anything. Besides, it isn't like information on the Department itself was easy to come by. It had 'Mysteries' in its name for a reason, she supposed.
...carries out confidential research...total secrecy...those who work there known as Unspeakables... Gena released a loud, exasperated breath. Ignoring the glances, she slammed the book shut and began to work on her Potions essay. What a waste, she thought. There was nothing in there she hadn't read before. If only she could check out books from the Restricted Section. Then maybe she could discover something worthwhile for once in the past two years.
Actually, if she was being honest with herself, she had no clue what she was searching for.
