Internship

Frank had asked Cecily to take the list to the Headmaster. The girl was really peppy and she and her little group of friends spent a lot of time in the career center, talking about their futures and asking Frank lots of questions. He found their enthusiasm both refreshing and sort of weird. So he sent her with the list while he finished things up in his office.

Cecily had never been to the Headmaster's office, because she was a good girl. She figured her roommate Jack Dyllan might have spent a lot of time there, since she was sort of a heathen. She said the password Mr Longbottom had given her and entered the office. "Sorry, Headmaster, but Mr Longbottom wanted me to give you this list of interns." She handed him a piece of paper that said:

Amelia Lyons and Jen Dent
Ariel Greyback and Edgar Doyle
Jake Collins and Arabella Johnson
Trowa Macmillan and James Manson.

He had been sleeping when the girl entered his office. He made a terrified gesture, looked at her, the papers and then closed his eyes again. ''I think she's here to see me'', he remembered and opened his eyes again. He turned to the girl. ''Mr. Longbottom? Sorry? Who? Isn't he dead? Well, maybe he left me something'', Doyle said, gesturing to the girl to bring him the papers.

''Come on, come on... I don't eat at this time'', he said, taking the papers. He then took his reading glasses from his front pocket and put them on. ''What is this? Weddings? I don't attend weddings! What am I supposed to do with this?'', he asked.

The Headmaster seemed sort of confused, which was understandable since she had waken him from his nap. Still, Cecil had thought he would be more professional. "No, sir, Mr Longbottom is the new career counselor. He helps people pick their classes and plan out their futures and he is in charge of the new internship program." Shouldn't he have known all of this?

At his words, she stumbled forward and handed him the papers. She vaguely wished Mr Longbottom could have done this himself. He read them and then asked her what it was. She bit her lip and said, "No, Headmaster, it is the first list of internships. He's still figuring out the other ones, but he wants your approval."

''What internship program? Bloody hell, is someone else running this school? Probably'', he commented coldly. He looked at the names. He knew three students and only one person. ''Who are there people? And who wanted me as a mentor? I know Greyback is an idiot, but I did not know that that Longbottom chap was an idiot too. And... who is 'Jen Dent'? She seems like a criminal?'', he asked, looking at the list, checking three out of four pairs.

Cecily wanted to sink into the floor. "The internship program is new... We read about it. The Ministry talked about it, I really don't know more on the subject, Headmaster. It's for NEWT students to do. Not all have to, but most seem to be. It can get you out of a class." She smiled weakly.

"I really don't know, sir. Mr Longbottom is pretty smart from what I've seen. And Ms Dent is the Head of Magical Law Enforcement.. I don't know her criminal record, sorry sir... I was just told to give you this list..."

''Oh bloody hell girl, don't be so stiff! I'm not going to harm you, I don't even know who you are. But, it seems that you managed to collect some of that stupidity from your boss. Loosen up a little. So, you need me to approve this? Well, if that is all you want, then I shan't ask anything else. But, I am looking forward to seeing you again. Here! And, do loosen up'', Doyle said. He signed the papers quickly without looking at the details and handed them over to the girl.

Cecily was like any other girl; when people sassed her, she wanted to sass back, but you did not sass your Hadmaster. Even a pissed off, hormone-vamped teenaged girl new that. So she bit her tongue and nodded, watching as he signed the papers- could he not have done this before? At his words, she realized this was going to be a regular thing. Great. Perfect. She took the papers and hurried out, calling behind her, "Thank you, Headmaster."
