Hello PAers.
Notice how many shallow, two dimensional characters, who serve one purpose and one purpose alone, are running about? And also notice how many people are spewing out a character a day, yet have 3 completely inactive ones who are ruining your plot by not replying?
Well, we're going to put a stop to that, for your sake, and for ours, I know that I for one am sick of seeing characters made for the purpose of "Making the character because I want to help member A make a character who's in a relationship with Member B, who my character is in love with" Basically, the one hit wonders that seem to litter our site.
As such we've got a few new regulations on accepting your character.
1) Notice in the application that we now ask for character purpose. This is just asking for a little blurb on what the aim and purpose of making this character is. In 90% of cases we'll allow it, but if it's something like "I'm bored" it's probably going to be denied.
2) We'll be looking at your other characters more intensely now. If we look through your characters and find one that's not A) Been logged on in two weeks or B) posted in a month we wont accept your app until you either delete the other one, or you make them active. This is to prevent people who can't manage having a billion characters from making them. We all know the pain of seeing a member log on daily, but not with the character who you're waiting on a reply from.
3) We're introducing a student grad ratio. After much arguing about the way that we want the site to go (What we focus on in plots, development, etc.) we realised that both the out of Hogwarts and the Hogwarts sections of the Harry Potter universe were fundamental to the story, and as such they're fundamental to this site.
So to prevent one or the other from getting out of hand we will be making a rule that your number of grads and students can't be higher than on in difference so as to prevent people from having all graduate characters and all student characters, this should keep the site balanced.
4) Character limits! Yay!
This one isn't what it implies. We wont be putting our feet down after a certain point and not allowing more characters, because some people on this site are brillian roleplayers, and are well and truly good enough to have 10 or more characters, and keep them active.
But some people aren't.
We wont be doing this as an individual thing, everyone will have the same opportunities to make the same amount of characters, but for every character past your fifth one we admins will be scrutinising your applications harder, and we'll be more strict on your other character's activity, and the purpose. We wont just look at the name of the creator and say no, so don't worry about that.
And last but not least, this one isn't so much a policy as it is a bit of justification, but i'll give it a number anyway.
5) This will all apply for admins, doubly so in fact, because they have so many other things to be doing, we need to take that into account when looking at activity. We wont be going easy on each other, we'll be quite hard in fact. I've told all the admins to go through and delete their stupid/inactive/one hit wonder characters, and they're all in the process of doing so, or have done so.
We also wont be allowing us to accept our own application. I do not know where this started, but that's stupid, the whole point of the application is to have someone else's opinions on it, of course we're going to think that we're brilliant, so having someone else poke a hole in our swollen egos is a necessity. So no more self accepting, i've scolded the admins who were doing this, rest assured.
Again, this may seem like being dictatorial, and it may seem like we're just abusing our powers for our own sake. But apart from the fact that it's not within any of our wants or needs to do so, nor is it in our character (Not the online one) to do so, we really stand nothing to gain on this, because it will be applying to admins as well, however any criticism is welcome to be posted here. We need to be held accountable to our actions, so do post any concerns you have in reply to this.
As usual, any questions, post them here, I'll be more than happy to help, as will any of the other admins, and for now just stay classy PA.
