Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Magical Abilities Claiming Empty Magical Abilities Claiming

Post by Vito Dee Symons Sun Dec 19, 2010 7:23 am

Due to the fact that we do not want to see thousands of invincible characters running about, claiming magical abilities has been made mandatory in order for any one character to have a magical ability.

All together there are three levels that characters are categorized into, and it is the level of your character that will determine the way that your character will be permitted to flaunt any particular ability. To be more specific, these levels consist of the Beginners, the Average and the Advanced. In theory you should know what level your character is, due to the fact that you are your character's creator- however, if an administrator considers your appeal for a magical ability unrealistic, your application for that specific ability may be rejected.

Now, to get an understanding of these so-called "levels". First- and it should be rather easy to understand the reason that this level came first on the list- there are the Beginners; a group which mostly consists of NEWT students. This group is for characters who have inherited or obtained a specific ability, but are not yet in full control of said gift. This may apply to characters young and old, but all members must provide a detailed history as to how that character has such an ability.

Next on our list are the Average Level Characters; those skilled witches and wizards out there that can actually control that nifty ability of theirs. Are you a bit curious as to why these specific beings are considered "Average"? They aren't anything super special; they do have the ability to insurtabilityhere, but they still just can't manage to perfect the use of their ability. Be patient young grasshopper; you shall master that gift of yours soon enough.

At the very, very tippy top of that list are the Advanced; those who have our permission to, in almost any circumstance, run around waving their abilities in the faces of their enemies whom they just so happened to get in a duel with, without any trouble. HOWEVER, do remember that this is a characteristic of an experienced sort of witch or wizard, and is a right that is not to be abused. We will not hesitate when snatching your abilities from you if you step over one of those lines that have been drawn for you... In order to obtain this right, you must provide a detailed history that is logical and that you honestly feel will be taken seriously as an appeal for an ability.

Students are allowed up to three abilities.
Graduates in Tier 5 to Tier 3 characters will be permitted up to three abilities.
Tier 2 characters will be permitted up to four abilities.
Tier 1 characters will be allowed up to five abilities, thus beings allowed the most.

Now, without further ado, I present to you the list of both the stale and the sparkly- or, in simpler terms, the older abilities and the most recently added.

THE LEARNED ABILITIES
These abilities do not require a detailed history, whereas, the rest do.

Nonverbal Magic – Nonverbal Magic is taught in Hogwarts' Defense Against the Dark Arts class to students who have reached their seventh year.

Occlumency– The ability to prevent someone from reading your mind and controlling your thoughts. Lack of compassion makes for a better Occlumens – Draco and Snape are examples of this. Occlumency can be learned at once a student has reached their sixth year- or higher. Only those appointed by the Headmaster will be taught this skill.

Apparation – Apparation is the ability to move from one place to another in seconds; JKR’s version of teleportation. Apparation is taught in a student's sixth year at Hogwarts. All sixth years and above are permitted to attend lessons in order to add this ability to their list. Remember that you cannot apparate on Hogwarts grounds, so do not attempt to do so or this right will be revoked.

Khaat's Note as of 12/24/10--Hey, All. To avoid a lot of unnecessary confusion, PA will presume that GRADS have learned a certain amount of nonverbal magic and apparation skills, up to the level of their assigned tier. I mean after all, we're all sort of presuming that anyway. If you're a grad, you will NO LONGER HAVE TO APPLY for those two abilities. Does that help?

THE COMPLEX ABILITIES
These too are learned abilities, however, they are far more complex than the ones above- hence the title- and shall require a reasonable application. There is always a possibility of having your appeal rejected when applying for abilities within this category.

Leglimency – The act of invading somebody’s mind in order to control him/her or read their thoughts. It is considered a dark act and Not something that is often performed by "good" wizards. It is a difficult art as well, and those who have attended advanced lessons at Hogwarts are able to do this. Both NEWT students and graduates are permitted to apply for this ability.

Wandless Magic – Some wizards have mastered the art of magic and have made it possible to cast spells without the use of their wands. Of course, magic is much harder to use and is much weaker in power without a wand in hand, but this is a useful ability if one were ever to find themselves without a wand while in a sticky situation. This is considered a very difficult ability to learn and shall only be handed out to graduates. Note: this is an ability that we rarely hand out.

Healing – The ability to heal injuries without the use of a wand or healing potions. Please take into consideration the fact that no one can bring the dead to life once more or heal fatal injuries- fatal injuries such as injuries received from a Sectumsempra hex, for example. The healing process requires only a few moments. Only professional healers are ever granted this ability, and in order to be considered a professional healer, one must first complete healer training and obtain a job at a wizarding hospital.

Invisibility – The ability to become completely invisible to the naked eye without the use of a wand. The effect lasts as long as its user requires it to last as long as he is in a condition to control it; no witch or wizard with the ability to become invisible may do so if they are on the brink of death, no matter the circumstances.

Mind Control– A process in which a group or an individual puts to use methods of manipulative in order to persuade others to do as manipulator wishes. This ability is given to only advanced Death Eaters and in order to control another's mind, the character who is being manipulated must first approve. This confirmation between members may be done through PM, such as permission to GodMod.

Memory manipulation – The ability to manipulate the memories of someone else, including the projection of lost memories for one to re-experience. This is often used for healing purposes and by Dark Wizards. Advanced Graduates are the only characters who are permitted to apply for this ability.

Telepathy – The sharing of information, thoughts, and feelings between individuals by no other means than the five senses.

Flying – Possibly the most difficult of abilities to learn, flying is the ability to fly without the use of a broomstick. This is also considered a difficult, or nearly impossible ability to learn. Flying for even one hour is very difficult and can harm your character severally. Only graduates are allowed to apply for this ability.

Animagus – Some wizards are able to transform themselves into an animal after becoming an Animagus. Any wizard can do this, although it is quite difficult to learn and can be dangerous. All those with this ability must be registered through the Ministry of Magic or shall face severe punishment- IC, that is.

THE INHERITED ABILITIES:
All the following abilities were passed down through bloodlines, and, therefore, in order to apply for any of them, someone upon your family tree must have that ability.

Parseltongue – The ability to speak to, and command snakes. This is considered a dark ability.

Speaking to Animals – The ability to speak to creatures and to possibly befriend them. Some animals, however, are not the brightest and may quickly loose interest.

Metamorphagus– The ability to change one's appearance at will.

Telekenisis –Some wizards have the ability to move things without the use of contact or a wand, however, only the smallest of objects may be moved, and never for a long period of time may one particular object remain in the air.

Seer – Seers are those who are able to see into the future and predict certain events. There are two types of seers, short term and long term. Short term seers can only predict things which will happen within a short period of time, and often only see what is to come with blurry eyes. Long term seers can see a more vivid image, but are unable to tell what time one particular event will occur, thus lacking a rather important piece of information. Long Term Seers are also limited to predicting major events that often don't involve themselves.

Empathy – The ability to share another being's feelings and emotions. This ability can either be inherited or transferred from one wizard to another, however, if one is to transfer this ability to another, they then loose the ability to said person. No one can transfer this ability without the consent of its original owner.

Astral Projection – The ability to willingly shed your body without breaking the connection between your soul and its fleshy prison; your soul is bound to your body in a way that allows you to quickly return to your natural form.

Post by Ne'Os Emof Tue Dec 21, 2010 1:42 am

Name: Ne'Os Emof
Age: 18
Tier: 3
Ability Desired: Invisibility
A Detailed History Behind Said Ability: Shortly after his return just after his return to the living and after he remembered his enemies on all sides of the conflict (but he still doesn't remember killing poor sweet voldy) he felt it necessary to learn how to disappear from the world. He searched around old castle ruins and found a tome that explained how to turn Invisible. After much practice and the issue with forgetting how to reappear for hours on end. He feels he has almost perfected it.

idk if this is acceptable as i don't really remember what you guys really want with these.

Magical Abilities Claiming Empty Re: Magical Abilities Claiming

Post by Sandra Archer Tue Dec 21, 2010 2:48 am

Name: Sandra Archer
Age: 36
Tier: 2
Ability Desired: Memory Manipulation, Apparition
A Detailed History Behind Said Ability:

Apparition: Everyone knows Apparition. Sandra learned it in her sixth year with the rest of her class. She failed her first exam - splinched an arm off. Very traumatic experience for her, but she managed to get it together enough to try a second time and passed without trouble.

Memory Manipulation: As Sandra is known to enjoy messing with her opponent's heads, this was a perfect skill for her to learn. She views Legilimency and mind control as "barbaric, brutal methods" and prefers changing a person's memories and then erasing the memory of her doing so. She will often change very subtle things - highlighting worse memories to increase nightmares and the like, repress happy memories to make them depressed and more likely to succumb to dementor attacks. But if pushed, ad given enough time Sandra can drive you insane by making all your memories a never ending nightmare.

Post by Miseria Lupin Tue Dec 21, 2010 5:46 pm

Name: Miseria Manson-Lupin
Age: 16
Tier: 0. Student's don't have tiers now do they? Smile
Ability Desired: Telekensis
A Detailed History Behind Said Ability: Miseria is probably the last one in the Manson family who has this ability (i have no plot for her daughter yet, so...). Since her father had this, it passed through him to her, and he helped her to learn the basic things what she had to know about the telekensis. But her lessons weren't finished. Soon, when she was 15 years old, her parents were murdered, and with her unfinished lessons, she doesn't know much anymore. The only thing what she can do is only raise some things that aren't even heavy. Mostly some chairs or easy things like that.
Miseria is "the beginner" level but hopes to improve her ability more in her life.

OOC: sorry, being ill again, i couldn't write anything normal, and it seems that telekensis is free for now.

Angelique, did you have something in mind? I am in favor of the idea due to the fact that Legilimency does, in fact require quite a bit of training... Is there currently a connection between your character and someone who would be willing to teach her? If that be the case I'll accept your appeal ahead of time and watch out for the thread.

Yes they do, Miseria, but that really depends on what year your character is in .

1) Top Tier.Characters in this are the best of the best. No one messes with em. Only canon characters are at this level. Such as Voldemort, Bellatrix, or

2) Tier 2. These wizards/witches are great at magic, have high ranks and are experienced. These are leader of factions or exceptional wizards and witches.
Examples of characters from the series are Lupin, Moody etc.
To take or make a Tier 2 character, you need at least ONE active character, and need to be responsible and realistic.

3) Tier 3. Or High tier. Characters in this level are the very talented Graduates. These mean the best Aurors or advanced Death Eaters and Order members.
Examples of characters from the series are Tonks, etc. These characters are usually far better than Examples of Potters Army characters are Vincent Majere or Lucius Malfoy.

4) Tier 4. Characters in this level are graduates who are good at magic, though not exceptional. Exceptional NEWT students can be in this tier too, though very rarely
Examples of characters from the series are Harry (7th year), Hermione, Umbridge, etc.

5) Tier 5. Middle Tier. Characters in this level are graduates who aren't so good at magic, or NEWT students who are good at it.

Examples of characters from the series are Fenrir Greyback, Ron etc.

6) Tier 6. Characters in this level are NEWT students. (Will not show)

7) Tier 7. Characters in this level are OWL students (Will not show)

8 )Tier 8. Characters in this level are basic students. (Will not show)

Sandra’s abilities have been accepted. Your profile will be updated immediately.

Post by Khaat Lupin Fri Dec 24, 2010 5:19 pm

Name: Khaat Lupin
Age:32
Tier:3
Ability Desired:Wandless Magic, Seer, Healer
A Detailed History Behind Said Ability: Oh, here we go again (for the umpteenth time--lol) Khaat's father has been able to do wandless magic and healing skills. They were both skills that Khaat saw her father use from the time she was very small. When she began to go to Hogwarts, she began to display healing abilities of her own, and learned some basic wandless magic from the professors there. She uses wandless magic most often in combination with her healing skills. After graduation from Hogwarts, she developed her skills just through daily practical use.

Her seer's abilities are inherited from her mother's side of the family. The women of that side of the family have been seers for several generations, and no one was surprised when Khaat followed in her mother's footsteps, although her mother's skills surpass Khaat's own.
