Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Boredness... Empty Boredness...

Post by Lana Di Angelo Sun Nov 28, 2010 6:26 am

Lana Di Angelo. Age: 16. School: Beauxbatons. Favorite color: Cyan.

Current Status: BORED.

Lana could not stifle the subtle cries of solitude as she shut yet ANOTHER book. The dust it had collected once upon a blue moon now billowed forth like fire from a Fiendfyre attack. It did not change the fact this day was boring. She wanted to talk with somebody, pull a prank, or even skip stones. For the first time since she arrived, Lana was wondering if she had made the wrong choice in coming over to Hogwarts.

Wait- no.

That kind of thinking would NOT do.

Lana's hand dug into her knapsack, the one her motherly maid had embroidered with her name, and pulled out a much newer book. It was Lana's personal journal, where she wrote, sketched and dabbled with the various incantations she had come to develop over the years of her glorious youth. She closed her eyes and flipped through the pages, hoping that the page she would lay her finger on was the perfect concept to ruin the dreariness of the day.

The result? The Klaptrap spell. A spell cast upon a random object, which it cause it to rage about in the most annoying manner it could manage. And since Lana was in a magical Library, nothing would seem too out of place. Smiling mischieviously, she raised her wand at the first book she saw, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It was a deceivingly small novella, bound lightly, with a bright red spine. A PERFECT target for a bored young witch.

She muttered the absurd incantation, and watched the magic take effect. The book was still in its birch shelf, sandwiched between Fabulous Wands and their Fascinating owners and the Fascinating Wizards (2010 ed.) anthologies. But as her magic began its work, the book began to "shoulder" itself off the shelf. The little tome flopped to the ground, falling page-flat as the cover crushed the leaves of pages the book contained. Lana looked nonchalantly over the table, hoping that the spine hadn't broken off. But she was in luck- the book was not "dead." It was, in fact, rather lively. It closed its cover upon itself and flopped onto its back cover. Then it began flapping and shut, as it slip across the ground. The sound of the book echoed through the first floor, but Lana doubted that it was loud enough to annoy the kind Librarian that had pointed her the way.

Marki felt confined in libraries usually. She liked the hordes of knowledge they offered her, but otherwise, they just seemed to bottle her up. The strange girl liked to randomly do somersaults and handstands, and she could not do them here. She liked to chase and attack inanimate objects- particularly the ever-evasive plastic bag- and she could not attack chairs here.

And yet, it was better than pining away in the common room, and the weather was not right outside for a conversation with the Giant Squid- her bad, Franklin. He really did not like being referred to as the Giant Squid or It. He was much more than that. She understood- Squids got a bad rap. The tentacles thing freaked people out.

So Marki was bent over a large volume focused on obscure muggle animals. Her favorites, by far, was the ostrich and the llama. Proof that whatever higher power created all these creatures had a sense of humor. Her bullfrog, Jeremiah, croaked from her hood, which was finally on her back where it belonged.

It was a library so silence was expected, so when a rhythmic thumping interrupted her hearing, interrupting the peace that was beginning to daunt her. In a perfect distraction sort of way. She looked up, looking for the source of the distraction to allow it to distract her even further. She saw that it was actually some sort of flailing book. She followed the source and saw an older looking girl concentrating on the book.

Marki stood, tucking the book under her arm and walking over to her, sitting at her table and focusing her attention on the book. “Aren't inanimate objects just so nice?”

"Well, it depends on the person I guess. I mean, the one you're currently constraining seems to be much more entertaining when animated," Lana replied, smiling politely. Most likely, the girl had caught on, but Lana didn't mind. A conversation wouldn't hurt in this kind of situation. Plus, this seemed to be a most entertaining type of person- she did not seem overtly studious, though those types of students were quite common, and she was certainly animated herself.

"I'm Lana. From Beauxbatons." she introduced herself, waving politely to the still flailing tome.

Marki grinned widely. She liked the girl already. She spoke her language. She sounded intelligent, but not completely normal, which was what Marki preferred. She was right; inanimate objects were much more fun when in action, making them the perfect things to do battle with. Such as the plastic bag, always floating in the breeze... One day... Marki would prevail.

Marki turned to face the girl and pressed her palms flat together in front of her chest, bowing as she did so, bobbing her head. She straightened back up. "Hello, Lana. I am Marki. Do you like the food here?" It seemed like a terribly particular question out of context, but Marki's brain had been thrown into thoughts of France when the girl mentioned the French school and she had remembered her one trip there and a delightful type of pudding she had been able to match anywhere else. "Better yet, do you like pudding?"

Louis walked to the Library for a book on tranfiguration. He looked around and saw a couple of people. One person that he had seen around school and the other person well she seemed..... Ya know.
Louis walked up to them. "Any book here on transfiguration spells." He smiled at them. "Sorry im Louis Weasley, Gryffindor, sixth yours, and you are?" He never saw the other girl. Maybe she was from Beauxtabons. Cool another french person if she was.

"Hm... It's a tough call," Lana replied. Markis had asked the one thing she couldn't dare to ask herself. How could one compare this school's pudding to the best of France? It was such a difficult call for Lana to make that she had disregarded from the very beginning. Pudding was a different kind of desert- it came in about as many varieties as there were fruits, candies, and vegetables altogether. There was a proper ingredient for every pudding.

Like Mango. Seriously, why did nobody bother trying it with mango?

"I mean, to the average witch, Hogwart's pudding is just fine. But if you're truly seeking a real pudding experience, you NEED to just visit Paris. I mean, nothing compares to that. I can actually give you a list of places. I like to call it 'Lana's Pudding Tour: 14 places with the greatest pudding today.' I can't bring myself to judge any pudding after last summer," she concluded, unable to judge in an unbiased manner.

Then, somebody came up to them, asking about a Transfiguration Book. He introduced himself as Louis Weaseley. "Hi Louis. I'm Lana, from Beauxbatons, sixth year. I think the Transfiguration Section is over there." Lana pointed towards the section to her right. "Of course, you could always just summon the book you need."

Marki nodded, listening intently to Lana, slightly surprised she had answered without hesitation the way she had. Most people Marki conversed with offered a substantial amount of awkward hesitation before every time they ventured to talk, which Marki assumed was associated with her peculiar little quirks but was never too sure. She did not see them as quirks. She did not know how to be any other way than what she was.

Marki nodded. “I've been once before but had only managed to sample one kind, which was really sad. I would have loved to go on that tour! Perhaps I'll stow away on the Beauxbaton's carriage and escape to my pudding refuge!” Before she could realize that this may be considered, creepy a Hogwarts boy walked up.

Marki nodded. “Marki Gordon's the name, social networkings the game. Stay classy, kid!” She pointed her fingers at him, clicking her tongue and winking, snapping her other fingers.

Louis smiled so she was from beaxtabons. "Hello, im son of Fleur Delacour. My mom used to go to Beauxtabons." He said in french. Then he looked at the Marki Grodon girl. I think I like this girl He thought. She seemed cool. He took out his wand and looked at the blue book in the transifuration section. "Accio Transfiguration Section 5." And the book flew to his hand. He read some of it. "Thanks."

"No problem," Lana replied smiling as Louis summoned the book he needed. She was kind of preoccupied with her own book. She winked at Marki and slid her wand out, quickly flicking the animation spell at the book in question. Suddenly, it sprouted to life, noisily chomping at the air and attempting to struggle out of the boy's hands.

Marki glanced at Lana and noticed a sparkle in the girl's eye and Marki recognized it as the sort of mischievous look she often had when she was about to put on a "performance." Sure enough, the book Louis had just collected sprung to life and began tweaking out. She jerked her chin at it, keeping a completely straight face and a calm demeanor as she often had. For the oddest girl she knew, she was not smiley nor the laughing type.

"Better watch those books," she warned knowledgeably, nodding her head. "They can get out of trouble and then you have all sort of issues."
